Help updating to 2.2

Hi

Not sure if I should create a new thread or not, but I will anyways ..

I purchased a HTC Desire in China (as I am currently living here) on the grey market .. not really realising the implications at the time. It was a european model and I was able to update to Froyo 2.2 ... before the motherboard died! As it wasn't able to be repaired under warranty (I guess that's my fault for buying it on the grey market) when it came back, it had a different software version and now I am unable to update the software. Has the 2.2 update been released in Asia? Surely it has .. anyways here are the details of my phone.

firmware version: 2.1 update 1
baseband version: 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
kernel version: 2.6.29-b7e82785 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
build no.: 1.19.707.6 CL164549 release-keys
software number: 1.19.707.6

I'm just wondering if something dodgy went on when my phone got repaired? I've read about rooting my phone but not sure if I"m confident enough to do it (and I have a mac). Maybe it's the only way. My phone is working fine but I just want the latest software because everyone else has it!

If anyone can offer any advice I would appreciate it!

Thanks

Ok, I'm going to put my foot in my mouth.

I have a DESIRE 2.1-update 1.

It is "locked" and I am with Telstra.

Just now the phone has 49.6 MB free.

How do I get the phone to update?

If I go to the settings/about phone/system software updates
it says there are no updates.

I did once get a message saying there is an update but I said "not now".
It told me, but I didn't think I had to remember it.

Now I am stuck on how to get it to update.

Anyone?

You. I want to know what version is on your phone when you go into Settings>About phone>Software information

Flying Dog

Have you gone menu/settins/about phone /system software updates

You can select to check for updates from there.
If you can do it over wifi or it can eat up your data allowance.

Upate:

Skipping the boaring bits, I went to a T-Shop. Despite people's possible dislike of them, they were helpful.

Though the BIG problem wasn't resolved, I learnt some interesting things.

The guy tried several ways/times to update the phone. It didn't work. He called his mate at HTC. They spoke.

Alas it was resolved that the phone would have to be updated from a PC - ie: ALL data would be lost. I backed everything up.

He went to HTC's site and was going through the motions. It asked for the IMIE number.

When he entered it, the website REFUSED that IMIE.

Alas the phone was a gift. I don't have the receipt. I *MAY* be able to get it.

But what a pain in the a$$. HTC or Telstra offered me the FOTA update a long-ish time ago. It clearly said it could be done later and so I said LATER. Now it is refused.

I may wait and see if it offers me the newer one coming soon and just skip the 2.2 altogether.
