Help Updating to latest Android

I live in India and my Samsung Galaxy has Android 2.3.3.

Baseband version: I9100DDKE4

I would like to install the latest Android (2.3.6?) on it.

Can anyone recommend a routing guide amongst the 3 listed here?

Also if you guys can tell me how to update the firmware to the latest version, that will be great.

Guide to update firmware

I would advise you to update your firmware first (to KK5), then root (KK5), as installing the firmware will mean that you will lose root.

I think rooting after updating to KK5 will allow me to update Android to 2.3.6. Can you kindly point me to a guide for that?

And by the way, its the firmware upgrade itself that will give you 2.3.6, and not rooting

You know I would like to download Odin but everywhere you go you have to play games and download some junk software downloader to do so. I fear letting these people getting access to my computer.

Is there just a place where you can download Odin without the games?

I think I can restore the stock Android in case I want to take it to Samsung service center.

Still you may have lost warranty: it will show indication that there has been some tampering: as such the upgrade is not yet legal in India: even if it has been upgraded, it must have been done at a Samsung authorized location.

I did a bunch of optimizations like reducing screen brightness and not leaving it at auto, removing background data sync, deleting widgets from home screens, using Power saving mode etc. and now the battery life is fantastic.
