I purchased my I8160 in the U.A.E. and it initially started with a Russian language pack. The packaging was also in Russian. I currently have (Gingerbread.XXLL2) which I believe is from Europe (XX). Where do I get my upgrade to Jellybean from. Do I have to get it from one of the (XX) countries? Since I8160 was not released in the U.S.A. (that I know of) they might not release Jellybean here in the U.S.A.. Will I have to manually update it to Jellybean or not? I would like the update as it may solve some issues I am having with my phone at this time.
Thanks

I appreciate the answer but it still does not give me an explanation of what or which firmware update (JB) I should choose when they do become available? Should I do the XX version (Europe) or can I do a U.S.A. version...should one become available? Does the region mean anything as far as what updates you can do?
Thanks

Ok.
My advice to you is:

The XX is the latest updates on GB.

If your phone is running XXLK2 ?! That means that your next optimal update is XXLK7.

The XXLK7 is Europe but Is unlocked international English.
So it should be perfect for you...

The region firmware codes are for different national carrier settings.
As different countries use different bandwidth and settings.
Ex:
(Chinese firmware is troubling for westen phones...
...Some other firmware comes in Arabic ... etc.

Are you in the States now ?

1- Download a fresh copy of "KIES" from the official "Samsung.com" or from your national Samsung website.
2- Run "KIES" to install the driver's on your pc.
3- Plug in your phone and check for any update available.
If you have an update just update your phone like that.

And job done.

I hope this helped you in any form.

Best regards.
