Help Upgrade Failed

So I tried upgrading (I don't know the numbers for either) my SGS2. It failed, and said 'Downloading, Do not turn off target'. I turned it off, it had been longer than 30 minutes.
Booting the phone gave a 'Phone Symbol > Yellow Triangle > Computer Symbol'. Upon googling, I put it into recovery mode, and tried doing an emergency recovery with kies. After spending ages downloading stuff and decrpyting the binary files.. It gets to 0% with the 'recovery in progress'. After a while (while still staying at 0%, it just says "failed to convert to upgrade mode".

Any help on how to fix my phone would be much appreciated, and no it's not rooted.

I can yes, what's the difference between XWKE2, XWKF3 and XWKJ1?
And do I use Odin? (I've not done this before, but watched loads of videos last night)

Yeah you have to flash it with Odin. To be honest i'm not sure on all the differences but the most noticeable one should be that battery life is improved with each of the updates. I would go for the kj1 as its the most recent.

If you've read up on the process and watched videos you shouldn't run into any problems. But if you get stuck on any of the steps just ask and there will be someone about who can help.

It failed, and I have to go to college now, here's the output;

<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..

It failed on boot.bin :(

Its possible that kies was causing interference. So make sure that isn't running in the background and give it another go.

The kies program wasn't running, but KiesDDLR and KiesTrayAgent were running. Currently a friend has the phone, and is going to try using ADB and just install an ICS rom.
If he does this, and it doesn't work, can I still call up my provider and send my phone to get it fixed?

That was probably the problem. If anything to do with kies is running Odin doesn't like it.

I think it will depend on which ics build they flash. If it doesn't increase your flash counter you might be ok but if it does it will void your warranty.

When you enter download mode there is a number at the top which says how many times your phone has been flashed. Official firmware won't increase this but custom firmware and kernels will. It's hard to say if ics firmware will increase this as some do and some don't.
