Upgrade Galaxy S2

I am trying using Kies to upgrade my phone to ISC. The program says: your device does not support software upgrading using Kies. I have chatted with 6 or 7 Samsung techs - what a waste. Here is what has been done:
1. hard factory reset
2. Phone registration on Samsung web site (I specifically like this one)
3. Battery has been pulled out, multiple times
4. Kies has been reinstalled, multiple times
5. Tried different usb ports.

Still the same. Any ideas?

Thanks

DON'T UPGRADE IT!!! ICS SUCKS!!! Theres SO MANY problems that occur because of it, I wish I had NEVER upgraded it. I Hate my phone now. So many problems. Please, just leave it alone and be happy with what you have. Trust those of us that are ticked.

That's what I'm hearing as well. I updated a friend's, and he said the battery life has decreased. Just curious, what other issues are people having?

Most of what's going on is flotsam left over from apps and settings leftover from Gingerbread. No matter how hard they try, in-place updates, especially when there is such a big platform change like there is from GB to ICS just leave too many problems. If you perform a factory reset after you update, it salve many of the problems that the most vocal opponents are complaining about. Make sure you back up all your data, because a reset will eliminate all your personal info like SMS messages, email, contacts, etc.

That's part of the problem: there is a known bug in the stock ICS kernel that can brick your device if you do a factory reset. Widely talked about on many forums, including this one

Are we talking specifically the i777? I know there was a problem with Google Wallet and factory resets, but I wasn't aware of any that bricked the phone. Could you find a link for me?

Do not upgrade to ICS on the ATT I-777 (Samsung Galaxy s2). I went from an Infuse to the S2 with ICS, and with ICS on the S2 the font used system wide on the phone is pathetic, and text messages were blurred so it seemed. Then of course the battery life sucks I was charging my S2 twice a day compared to my Infuse which went 24hrs with my use.

Long story short I went back to the official ATT firmware last night of Gingerbread and all my issues were corrected. It seems Samsung needs to fix the font size used system wide on the S2 on the official ICS update along side the battery issue.

I upgraded to ICS and then did a factory reset. My phone seems better in every way, even battery life.

Not sure if I'm on the correct blog, my phone is labeled I727, I upgraded my S2 Skyrocket a few days ago and it all went without a hitch, I went from the ATT Gingerbread to the ATT ICS, battery seems to last some bit longer now and the apps I use (not alot) they seem to be running fine.

Well, according to the AT&T techie I spoke with today, he said a factory reset will NOT fix the problems we're having with the GS2 because for some reason, they're finding that the ICS is having a negative effect on those phones specifically. So, I dont really think a reset will help the problems. Just erase everything and make more of a mess. IMO

Me too, I upgraded my ATT skyrocket to ICS with no problem. The battery life has improved very much than it used to be with GB. It could last 2 to 3 days on a full charge without using any battery saver apps. I dont know why so many people have problems with ICS especially with battery life.
