Ok so I'm due a early upgrade to 4G but don't know what to get.

Don't know whether to get a android or iPhone 5s

I see the specs of android are far better but I see the iPhone winning benchmarks in reviews so not sure what's better as will be my phone for at least a year and a half.

Thanks in advance ;)

Forget the benchmarks. Seriously, they're all but useless and the ones that are useful are limited to only very specific uses.

Benchmarks are otherwise a meaningless sales game.

I've actually chosen and installed a rom on my phone that I know benchmarks slower than other choices available to me. Why? Because everything actually works the way I want, for me, and I'll trade speed for features I care about any day of the week.

Top end Androids are very fast as is the iPhone 5/s/c.

Your best bet is to try a few side by side in a store and see if any just viscerally appeal to you - in most cases, that's going to be the one for you.

Android offers more choices - in hardware and in versions of the operating system (unlike the iPhone, look and feel vary a lot from brand to brand).

And getting good choices for your hard earned cash is what it's all about.

Most of us here prefer Android, obviously.

But not all for the same exact reasons - but in general, I'd bet it's safe to say because we had better personal choices. :)

Buy a phone with the features you want.

Having a slightly faster/slower phone wont matter nearly as much compared to your phone not doing what you want it to.

Definitely go to the store and "test drive" a few of them. You will most likely be happier with the phone you choose if you enjoy using it, and does what you want. Benchmarks are almost useless, and it is how the phone works for you in normal use that counts.

Very good points any ideas on what is the best phone out at the moment though??

What phones would youse recommend??

Cheers again

That depends on what your needs are. With Apple, the choice is clear. Android on the other hand is another story. What are you looking for in a smartphone?

Do you have any of the following restrictions -

Carrier?

Country?

Budget?

On-contract or buy outright, up front?

Do you -

Use more for business?

Use more for gaming?

Do you -

Consume a lot of media?

If yes, would you be streaming or looking to carry it all locally?

Do you have a preference for screen size? Would something be too big? Too small?

"Best phone" is relative - best phone for certain needs may not be. :)

I am an android person myself and the Galaxy S4 and the Moto X both look great, but then I am still quite happy on my Galaxy S2. It's all up to you. That is why I say Test drive them. Even having an idea of what I would get if I were to be getting a new device, I would still be trying a few.

What phone are you currently using and are you happy with it during its lifetime? If you are, the simplest thing to do is to simply stick with the same phone only the latest model. If you do this, then at least you will be most familiar with how the phone works. Moving to a different model or manufacturer is going to involve some adjustment period. Moving to a different OS/ecosystem will be an even more of a change and will require rebuying apps you had before.

Basically I've used a fair few phones. I like both platforms ios and android.

My last phone was a iPhone 5. I love the way all the notifications work and it is simple to use. Also apps seem better made. One small example is silly but tv guide when you turn the phone landscape it goes grid view. Android doesn't :(

I have just got the Sony z1 and it seems really good but I just don't know maybe it will become better over time than the iPhone but I always seem to have problems with notifications on android.

I use my phone for everything as much as I can the more the better.

Is the 64 bit that big a deal just I need a phone that is future proof for at least a year and a half possibly two

It's such a hard choice I'm in the UK and have no hold backs on phones as the most expensive here is the 5s.

I just don't know whether to keep the z1 or use my 7 day exchange and get the 5s or wait for the g2 or note 3

What exactly are the issues you are having with Android notifications? Perhaps we can help you out.

It sounds like you were happy with the iPhone. You didn't mention anything you didn't like about it that you think Android would be a better solution. Perhaps you should just stick with the iPhone. You seem unsure about your Sony right now. I don't know how it would really be better with time.

I highly recommend checking out the LG G2. Picked it up on release September 12th and I am loving it more and more everyday.

I just liked the fact the iPhone Just worked and apps Seem to be made better. But their all the same.

I have the problem where when I have a iPhone I see people with s4 and notes etc and think I want one of them and the opposite when I have one.

I just would love a phone that does everything and more.
I just worry with android that they get left behind sometimes where as I Know the iPhone will be updated.

God I sound like a apple fan but I'm really not I just can't find something I'm happy with I always think I'm missing out I'm the same with cars and xbox / PlayStation aswell. :(

I think you just have a case of migration jitters. Everything is different from what you had with your iPhone that it sort of makes you miss it. I mean you're not being very coherent about it. Look at your statements:

My last phone was a iPhone 5. I love the way all the notifications work and it is simple to use. Also apps seem better made.

When asked what was the problem exactly, you answered:

I just liked the fact the iPhone Just worked and apps Seem to be made better. But their all the same.

It would really help us address your issues if you answered more coherently.

Also, better made apps are dependent upon the developer. There are apps on Android that rival or are even better than iOS apps in quality. One example was Falcon Pro (when it was still available before it exceeded the available Twitter Tokens). Users with both Android and iOS on the G+ community were always bitching about why it was not available for them on iOS, as it was one of the best Twitter clients available. Some saying it was better than any iOS had.

Astrid and Any.Do were also initially Android only apps, before they made themselves available to iOS due to demand for their great interface.

If you could tell us exactly what it is you find lacking on Android, we can help you out better.

Tbh nothing I just always think I'm missing out I'm the same when I have iPhone I end up wanting android now I'm not sure about z1 or note 3

The 64 bit iphone is nothing but a marketing gimmick. Without 4GB+ of ram and software to support it ,64 bit is useless.
The iphone 5s isnt going to be able to make proper use of 64 bit because it lacks acquit RAM.

It sounds like you will simply never be satisfied. You seem to always want a phone that you don't have. I don't think I can help you. You didn't give me any specific info that can allow me to really make a recommendation.
