Upgrade or root? I dunno

What should I do? I've had my Desire for 2 years and its been great, well apart from a very disappointing Bluetooth Voice Dial.

I kept it standard as supplied by Orange, yes it was bloated but it worked fine for the few apps I use daily. I like HTC Sense.

Since the HTC One X is not yet available from Orange, I was pondering if I should root and take my Desire to the next level and keep it for a few more months?

Any opinions welcome! Then be prepared to help!

Cheers

Well basically, why not? Plus the One X might have flaws and you may go for something else.

Dont CPW / Phones4u give unbranded handsets whilst upgrading on your existing contracts?

I eventually upgraded my Desire to Cyanogen7 and I am glad I did. The extra space and unbloated appearance suit me fine.

Would I still get HTC Sense?

No. But Cyanogenmod has lots of features that you don't get with HTC sense, as well as some similar ones.

It has a similar pinch to zoom on the home screen so you can see all your screens. But with cyanogenmod you can add more screens or delete them.

A very nice feature that I liked was power widgets in the pull down notification bar. Just swish down and switch on your torch app. Brilliant (excuse the pun). or swish down and turn data on or off, etc.

What was it about Sense that you like?

I remember that I liked it before I rooted, and was worried about losing it, but now I can't remember anything about it, and certainly don't miss it. With non-sense android you can use the bottom of your home page for permanently placing your most useful app shortcuts - like browser, camera, whatever, so that they can be accessed from any of your home screens without having to scroll back to the centre screen.

The only thing I miss about Sense is the Teeter app...
