Ok guys, here's how it is. I'll be getting a new phone in the next month. I'm updating from the Samsung Alias 2, a non-android phone. I have no in-depth usage experience with the Android OS, though I do fiddle with my parents' phones, who both have Incredibles. I am a fairly performance-oriented user, and I pick up technology quickly.

So, my questions to you are fairly simple. I'm debating between the Droid X and the Incredible. I've read around a bit here, and there seem to be lovers and haters of each phone. I'm not really considering any other phones, though if a good enough argument is made I'd be open to the idea of it. So here are my questions:

I know the Incredible comes fairly easy to root, but Motorola has tried fairly hard to lock down the DX. How much will that affect usability or effectiveness of rooting of the DX over the Incredible?

Also, I've seen some talk here about launchers. The main one I see is called Launcher Pro. What exactly are Launchers, what do they do?

Now I'm leaning toward the DX because of the extra noise-cancellation, what I've heard of better camera quality software-wise, and the HDMI-out, as well as a better audio sampling rate. Is there anything that the Incredible does significantly better than the DX?

i had the inc, had to return it. battery life sucks, if you get the extended battery, it's fine, but the device us much thicker.

i got the x and love it.

On the current OTA, it's still very simple to gain and keep root. There's a great dev community for custom ROMs and themes for the X, though I can't comment on the Incredible's. And a launcher is just the UI for your dock and homescreens. IMO, the stock blur launcher is terrible, but it's really simple to get a different one and configure it to your liking.

Thanks. Can anyone give me any advantages of the Incredible over the DX? I know both are solid systems, and right now I'm leaning toward the X, of course, but I just want to know if the Inc has any capabilities or features that I'd be missing out on by going with the DX.
