Upgrade/swap SD card in Froyo

I'm having trouble upgrading my SD card to a bigger one. Every resource I can find on the topic says to just copy the full contents of the SD card to the computer, disconnect phone, turn off, swap card, turn back on, connect, and copy all files back to new SD card. I thought that Android 2.2 might cause a problem with this, because it can install apps directly on the SD card, but I found a post on these forums that said the copying steps above would still work.

Unfortunately, this didn't work for me. All of the apps installed directly on the SD card disappeared when I started up the phone with the new card, so obviously, something went wrong there with getting those apps to works.

Oh, and I was certain to show all hidden files, etc., before I copied everything from the old Sd card and back to the new one, so that isn't the problem.

Any suggestions?

Huh. Weird. I didn't have any trouble when I upgraded to a bigger sd card. Maybe wipe the new card and try again? If not then the only thing I could see working would be to transfer the apps back to your phone, swapping cards, then putting them all back on the sd. But that would be a PITA.

That is a great question. I don't really know. I do know that name brand cards even when stamped class 2 are usually faster than no namers of a higher class/rating. I have never had a read/write speed problem doing anything with a phone. I am not really sure that the processors are robust enough to even come remotely close to a pc write speed, so in all actuality a class 2 would probably work.

thx. first time i tried taking video phone locked up and i assumed it was cause of my mem card but did more video tonight and it worked great (involved bottle rockets and a drunk guy tryin to find a "unique...aka tried many times but never worked out well for the guy "launching" the rocket method) no more details on that unless asked but i'm betting you can find many iterations on youtube. on a side note i'm hammered and drunk people should not be allowed near comps let alone message boards. g'night and joy be with you all. cheers

You need a file explorer app, like root explorer or something similar. Or you can mount it to your pc and browse on the desktop...
