Root Upgrade to 2.2.3 with root

Im new here so if I am posting in the wrong place, please mods, move this along.

Anyway, Im running a droid X2 with factory 2.2.2 that I rooted using gingerbreak. I accidentally accepted the OTA (2.2.3 I think) update and lost root and other things. Long story short, I was able to get back to factory and re-root.

I believe that I am running Froyo and would like to get the upgrade but want to remain rooted. Ive frozen/blocked the OTA using titanium. My assumption is that I would need to download the new version and put it on the phone from my PC but I do not know the process or what exactly I need to get.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you
ea

The updates go from 2.2.2 (Froyo) to 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) to 2.3.4 (Gingerbread).

If settings aren't a big issue for you, you can just use RSD Lite to install the SBF for whatever version you wish to run. Why didn't you just root your updated version of Android instead of going back to 2.2.2? Did the update fail?

And you can dig up RSD in the Newbie Start Point thread, and the SBF of the Android version you want in the Custom Droid X2 ROMs thread.

edit: Here's something I just found: How to Maintain Root through Any Upgrade.

The version that I want to run is the one that came in OTA a few months ago but with root. Like an idiot, I somehow allowed the update to be installed. It took quite a bit of fighting to get it back to stock so I just stayed with that.

I am aware of using RSD to SBF but I have had problems having the phone recognized when starting.

So what do you experts think? Should I go with 2.3.3 or 2.3.4? Can you point me to the proper download and procedure? Much appreciated.

Stupid question. Why is it called gingerbreak with its used on froyo?

I was not aware of a one click root for 2.3.4

Let me get this straight.... I can take the OTA then reroot using the new exploit?

Last time I was looking into this a root was not available.

Awesome, thank you.

One last question, would it be a problem to unfreeze the OTA and allow it to install then re-root? Just curious.

unfreeze the OTA? As in Titanium Backup Unfreeze? If so this would imply that the phone is Rooted which means the OTA would not work. You have to be completely unrooted for the OTA to work.

You can try it. Some people have reported that the phone still won't pick up the OTA. I would suggest unrooting, resetting and clearing cache first.
