Root Upgrade to 2.2 FAILED

Riverdome

Newbie
Ok not sure where I'm going wrong. Here's everything I have done.

Starting with stock DX
- Used UniversalRoot to gain root access
- Installed and ran Titanium Backup, backup saved to SDcard
- Reran UniversalRoot and unrooted
- Flashed with SBF, seemed successful but my user data was still intact
- Booted to stock system recovery, wiped data/factory reset & wipe cache
- apply sdcard:update.zip

E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

Any suggestions?

Just curious, why did you SBF if you were already clean? And why unroot? You didn't want to transfer root to 2.2?

I tried just installing the 2.2 update and I got this error so I figured I would follow the instructions in the thread, even I knew they didn't make sense. I didn't need SBF and didn't think I needed to unroot. But I also figured neither step would brick the phone so aside from wasting time/effort there was no harm.

UPDATE: With the data wipe I have lost everything, no surprise, but the phone does boot just as it did when it came out of the box. I'm off to dinner now but I'll revisit this thread and try it all again in a few hours.

Listen, flashing with the .sbf is only required if your system is modified, which yours wasn't. Secondly, it's fine if your user information is still in-tact after flashing with the .sbf. It doesn't need to delete that information in order to achieve the steps necessary to prepare your phone for the update.

When you get back, try the update on your phone. It should work now, and boot you to 2.2. However, I'd suggest you root before you apply the update (you will stay rooted after it is applied, the only known way to be rooted in the droid x 2.2 so far).

If it doesn't work...
1. power in to bootloader (camera flash, volume rocker down, power button)
2. plug computer into .usb
3. run rsdlite to flash the .sbf
4. phone should be at stock 2.1 now, power down and up into recovery and apply the 2.2 update.

where did you get the update.zip?
There was a link that had a bad one that was only like 29meg it should be a little over 69meg. Can you view the zip file? If not try downloading again.

Sounds like you misunderstood what to do. Since you were starting from an unrooted stock DX, all you had to do is root the phone, move the SU from bin to xbin, and run the update. That's what I did and I am upgraded to 2.2 with root and I started from an unrooted stock DX.

I tried just installing update.zip but it failed - then I started the SBF steps..... Must have been a bad copy of update.zip. I redownloaded, copied to SDcard and the install was successful.

Thank you all for your help.

My update has failed as well. I was rooted and the update install failed so I unrooted and did a factory reset. I still have the superuser icon in my app tray. The update is still failing. :-(

The same thing is happening to me. Do i have to sbf to do this? I did everything else but its not working. I dont understand i rooted but did not change anything

I was gettin the same thing.
I was 2.1 with root in xbin..
I just re SBFd..phone now %100 stock..im downloading the update..
Update now is installing.

I just tried that and still failing. Do I need to move any other files?

I had that exact issue of the signature failure error. I removed the bootstrap application and followed the instructions to remove the files and rename logwrapper to the original state. The update continued to fail so I deleted it and redownloaded it and it was successful. No issues other than needing to reroot the phone.

So... Just a FYI that maybe the download is bad.

Success! I had to download a few apk's and use root explorer to put them in the app folder, but I am now on 2.2...but without root. Good thing there is already a root method out there.

I'm on 2.1 with root. Can I update if i haven't changed anything besides root? I rooted and installed a tethering app that's it. And do I need to unboot before update?
