Upgrade to Galaxy S5? Opinions!

Apple still rules around here, and many iPhones are hand me downs. The 3GS is most common. Often in an OtterBox case while most Android phones are prepaid or older, or budget types and left naked to get beat up. There are rare sightings of the Galaxy S3 but the only Note 3s I see are carried by well dressed business types such as pharmaceutical reps or higher ups from Menard's.

The new iPhone doesn't sell here because many here hate iOS 7 as much as I do, but in their case it's the sudden change that kills interest. This is a pretty conservative, set in their ways town. Many still prefer flip phones over smartphones
 
You can get flip-smartphones of course, they don't have to be dumb, in this country they're often preferred by businessmen to the iPhones and S3s and S4s, etc. In fact Samsung does a special one just for China, the Anycall W899, rather expensive and trimmed with gold.
 
As a strong conservative type myself who doesn't care much for change, technology is one area where I love new stuff.

I will never understand the pride some people have in not embracing technology.
 
@nick you may actually consider the Note 4 when it comes around. Usually Notes have all the features of the S counterpart, just bigger with an S Pen. So it's likely the Note 4 will have thay ultra power save mode and water proofing.
 
True, however there is no confirmed Note 4, just the usual speculations like the Nexus 6. I have three more months to plan though. But the ultra power saver might be a S5 exclusive. The Note 4 might also run Tizen which would make it far less attractive

While the features are in doubt, I dont find it likely for Samsung to throw one of their flagships down the drain with Tizen. I'd see them release Tizen on local (Korea) before going international. Changing OS like that on an existing product line is a stupid move for a company.
 
The Note 4 is all but confirmed. The unveiling event is in a month. They might as well be running down the streets screaming 'The Note 4 is coming!'

I doubt they'll run Tizen on this device. They had some other line(Galaxy Z) that is supposed to be their initial Tizen phone, but that's been indefinitely delayed. Rest assured, the Note 4 is coming and it will run Android.
 
The new Gear runs Tizen, and might be offered alongside the Note 4. Even the S5 TouchWiz has elements similar to Tizen. Samsung has been drifting away from Google for some time lately, it wouldn't surprise me if the Note 4 ran Tizen

I don't think they'll move away from Google completely, and do their own things entirely, that would make them no different to Apple IMO, i.e. closed system and completely proprietary, and apps can only come from Samsung Apps and nowhere else. Although here in China they do, and are very much in a deathmatch struggle with Apple. Very unlikely the Note 4 would be running Tizen. That was intended for low-specced budget phones for emerging markets, but Android does that just as well anyway. What OS the Gear runs, doesn't really matter as long as it does what it's supposed to.
