Help Upgrade to ICS

Am I correct in thinking that to have a hassle free upgrade from Version 2.3.X to ICS you should do a factory reset prior to downloading the update then another factory reset after you've downloaded the update?

Also can you still update OTA after doing the first factory reset?

Is it better to update OTA rather than use Kies? Also do the apps that you downloaded under 2.3.X still work under ICS?

Most of all is ICS worth it?

Thanks

I would advise doing a Factory reset prior to updating as this will give you a blank canvas for the update to install on initially.

Factory Reset does not affect OTA. I would, wherever possible, avoid OTA updates as they can cause more problems than using Kies, particularly if the update download is interrupted or corrupted.

IMHO, most definitely. I would not go back to the old Gingerbread ROM's now after ICS.

Thank you.

Why do you need to do a Factory Reset after downloading and installing the update?

Thanks

You can do it either before or after the update but no need to do both. Some people update without a Factory rest and run into problems, hence the Factory Reset after the update.

I would just do a backup, do the update, and if you have any problems then try a factory reset after that. Probably you won't have any issues though.

I've had my SGS2 since July. Originally on GB, there was an update to 4.0.3 and recently another to 4.0.4. I have updated both times without doing a wipe and am not having any issues.

I'd say try it first, then if you have a problem try wiping.
