Help Upgrade to JB 4.1.2 Kills my Battery Life

I was notified this week that 4.1.2 was available so I upgraded.

Since then I find that my phone gets warm and the battery lasts less than 4 hours. I'm not entirely sure but I think it is because of "My Tracks", which I use now and then. Now it seems to be permanently on and it is not possible to close it. I think it's used by "Google Now". The only way I could get my battery life back was to uninstall My Tracks but then "Now" is not much use.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix that anyone knows of?

If you don't use Google Now very much, it would be better to just uninstall it.
Or if you're phone is rooted, you can freeze the program.
 
You can also try doing a factory reset. Usually doing that fixes some problems after such a big upgrade like this one.

Not at all, my phone is much zippier than it ever was with ICS.


1. What are your battery stats reporting? Does Media Scanner have a high percentage by any chance?

2. Install Wakelock Detector to see if anything is keeping your phone awake for an unusually long time.

Media Scanner seems to be a big culprit for battery issues after an upgrade to JB. If this is your issue I'd first suggest removing or freezing (disabling) Google Currents/Google Play Magazines as this is what seems to be keeping the Media Scanner active for most people.

You can disable apps in Settings > Application manager > All tab > after clicking on the app you'll have the option to uninstall or disable.


Just to add, Google Now is resource intensive but only to a degree. Major battery drains and slowness are likely to be another culprit.
