Probably - if you compile AOSP yourself. But you'll find new meaning for the word "slow". The hardware most likely can't handle anything newer than Gingerbread.

Yeah, if your carrier hasn't pushed-out an over-the-air update for you, then your only recourse would be to root and install a custom ROM (not necessarily a simple process either, though).
