Root Upgrading CM

Last summer I followed the excellent directions posted by koopakid08 and I have been running Android on my Nook since then. But recently, I started to wonder about upgrading the OS.

I imagine that there have been improvements, and I see there is now a CM9 (I'm on CM 7). So my question is - can I upgrade without losing everything that I've installed, customized, etc.? And if so, how?

CM9 on the Touchpad works so much better with a clean install. (You could backup apps + app data with Titanium Backup and restore it after updating tho.)

Is CM7 installed on your NC or on a sdcard (dual boot with stock)?

It is on the sdcard - wife still uses it as a Nook from time to time.

I had the feeling that might be the case.

I've only installed to sdcard once and that was b/c of all the support requests. (I'm not a fan of sdcard installs.) I don't own a NC any more, but do update my wife's occasionally (now on CM7 and CM9 soon).

I think if you copy your updated rom and gApps to the sdcard, they'll update automatically, but someone else should comment first.

They should update automatically, but you've got to boot from the SD into recovery mode. It looks like you need to choose recovery from the boot menu, not from the reboot menu that you get by long pressing the power button and choosing reboot. I use j4mm3r's boot menu to get there, but you can also get to the menu by holding the "n" button while powering on.
