Upgrading from Eris early!

actually i called verizon today and they did offer me a brand new phone at the discounted price. all i had to say was i absolutely hated my phone. they asked me what kind of phone i want i said i wanted the moto droid (i never want a phone w.o a keyboard again) and its on its way!

If they said they were out of Droids, it's a lie. A friend of mine made a claim last Thursday and had the phone here yesterday. They didn't send the USB transfer cable (the OEM one) so he now has the generic VZW charger and he is getting the OEM Motorola charger which detaches to reveal the data cable. For free.

If you paid for a replacement, you might want to go back and fight some more. If you were told there were no more Droids, that would be a lie.

We're all different here. Some of us don't care about the modding potential of our phones, and that's fine. After coming from the Eris, we just want a phone that at least makes calls. But if you are timid about what the Ally or Devour will be like, I'll just say I don't think it would fun. And by that I mean it will work but they aren't going to give you the same experience as the Eris.

One guy on here massaged a DInc for free. The rest have gotten Droids. Even if you don't care, a Droid will sell for a lot higher than an Ally when it comes time to upgrade and you sell it. ;)

I find it interesting that I am somehow "lucky" and end up with a phone that works fine from day one and yet other folks have all kinds of phones sent to them and continue to have the same problems over and over.

Hmm...I wonder what the common denominator is...trying to think....

Hey, hey... I have gotten 3 dud Eris' in a row, but my husband's is fine. :p Verizon said it was the way that some of them downloaded the software. Who knows if that is true or not?

This is hilarious.

Verizon told me they'd send an LG Ally, since I've had bad luck with the Eris three times.

So today I open up the FedEx box, and I see an LG charger, LG battery cover, LG battery, and in a nice little box is..... wait for it... an Eris!!!

I laughed.

SAY WHAT?! That is messed up!
I've had my troubles like this with T-mobile with there craptastic sidekick 2008 I went threw 3 of them my goal was to get the G1 they wouldn't give it to me they sent me a blackberry pearl flip I hated that phone. I had to replace that one to with a refurbished pearl flip.
The worst is when you tell them your problems with the phone and they act like it's your fault when they know other customers have this same problems.

It really is luck. Novice members/users have the same problems as experienced ones. Verizon admits that there is a problem. Getting it fixed is another.

But it's great that yours is working fine. Your situation isn't unheard of and some of the issues can be attributed to some users simply expecting more from this phone than what it can realistically do. But there are other, legitimate problems that you just simply can't make up.

As for getting LG accessories with an Eris as a phone, I'll say it one last time: demand an explanation. When one can't be given, don't settle for the Ally or Devour.

Thousands, really? Let's say you believe all the complaints on this forum (I'm including the exaggerations used to justify a free upgrade), I would bet you'd be hard pressed to find 100 or so unique people. Regardless, how many Eris' hav been sold - a few hundred thousand? At that rate, even a few thousand people with serious problems is only in the 1% category.
As far as being unhappy with their purchase, people can be unhappy for a lot of reasons. People are unhappy that the Eris is discontinued. People where unhappy waiting for the 2.1 rollout. People are unhappy the Eris won't be getting 2.2/3.0. People are unhappy with Sense. People are unhappy better phones have been released. Should someone be held accoutable for all unhappiness?
If you are having a problem with your phone did you ask Verizon to correct it? Have they fixed it or are they trying?

lauren is correct, and thousands is a gross under statement. I called verizon about my issues. They had me factory reset 3x and pull the battery 3x all in the same call because eventually it will magically fix itself. Other than than that they did nothing. I rooted and while removing sense fixed my over all lag issues, I still get dialer lag and silent calls.

but my husband's is fine.

Husband????

I feel so misled! :p

Ha... now that's funny.

Lauren, my advise is make them give you a Droid. I know you probably dont want one because of the size.
But a friend just got an Ally and it really sucks. This thing is brand new and it feels slow.
Although the phone part is probably ok. But i really dont like the Ally.

I have a Droid now and the thing just works. Fast and reliable.

What is sad is waiting in line to to talk to their store idiots, 2 other people in line a head of you have the same issue with the same phone and when you get your turn they have never heard of the problem, no one has ever complained about this problem...

sad really.
