Upgrading from the Inc2

Since there's no ICS in sight for the Inc2 I've decided to start looking at other phones. The new Razr-M caught my eye because of its size. I like the size of the Inc2 and the Razr-M is almost exactly the same even though it has a 4.3 inch screen (made possible by new edge to edge technology). All the specs look strong and they say the upgrade to Jelly Bean is already in the works (probably better not to focus on that though after the foolishness with the Inc2).

The Razr-M should be available in about a week for $99 (with 2 year contract). Anyone else looking at the "M"?

I am also interested in the Razr M. Spec looks great on the M and according to what I read, it will get JB by year end. The size is identical to the Inc4g with larger screen real estate and a 2000 mah battery. I wonder if Moto will come out with a Razr M Maxx with even a beefier battery :D.

Yes, compared with the Inc 4G the "M" has stronger specs across the board. Regarding an "M Maxx" I think we would know by now if that was in the works since they've already announced the Razr HD and Razr HD Maxx, but there may be an extended battery for the "M". I'm looking forward to laying hands on the "M" in the store soon. It's coming in at great price point considering how strong it is.

HTC Rezound... The global mode isn't official YET, but that update is expected within the next month, that feature is an HTC leaked RUU right now.

Wasn't the Rezound released last year? It's only CDMA from what I've researched. So you're saying it has a slot for a SIM card? Because I'm looking to upgrade to a phone with CDMA+GSM features.

The Moto Droid RAZR M was released today and it is a "world phone".

My suggestion exactly, the specs on this phone are very similar to the Rezound, it's global mode, has a bigger battery, and more efficient processor (cutting battery usage significantly). No matter other people say, Motorola generally makes a pretty good phone, and for $99 this one is priced right.

It has all the radios needed for a Global Mode phone, just "officially" doesn't have the correct firmware support of it yet... but it is in the works and should be out within the next month or so, we already have an extremely stable RUU leak of the new firmware with full global mode support.
 
I played with the M in the Verizon store today. I took some time and really checked it out (fortunately the store was empty and no one cared :) ). I currently have the Inc 2 and in terms of performance the M blows it away. The responsiveness and speed of the M when swiping the screen is very good. Because of the edge-2-edge technology the M is about the same size of the Inc 2 - another plus as it would fit perfectly in my pocket. I was disappointed with the screen though. The Inc 2 screen actually seems a little brighter, or at least more white. White on the M was a little dingy. Also although the screen is technically 4.3" it's closer to 4" much of the time because the on screen buttons take some space along the bottom edge. Yes those buttons disappear when you do some things like play a YouTube video, but they are there a far bit of the time, so it doesn't feel like a larger screen.

Over all the M is a good phone, but whether or not it's a good choice depends on what you already have and your expectations. Coming from the Inc 2 the screen just didn't wow me enough. I'm going to pass on it for now and wait to see what the Razr HD is like.

The battery is not removable. I wonder if this enables them to make the phone thinner? Battery life is supposedly quite good with the 2000mAh. I'm waiting on the HD with a larger screen though.
 
Well since the whole grandfathering of the unlimited data plan has completely gone away if you upgrade your phone, I'll probably be buying an HTC Rezound off Craigslist to keep my unlimited data, but go up to 4G speeds... BUMMER
 
I'll be moving from the DINC2 to the Razr M. Just waiting for the person on EBay that bought my DINC2 to submit payment. Then it's off to Verizon's website to order.....
 
The Galaxy S3 looks sweet, but I wish we knew for sure that Verizon will be pushing a software upgrade to allow it to go global
 
Just ordered my Razr M from Verizon. Sold my DINC2 on Ebay for $140. The Razr M was $99 plus tax and $30 upgrade fee.

That's my issue with Motorola, no removable battery. I always have purchased an extended battery for my phones. Kind of a deal breaker for me, right now at least. I'll wait and see what else comes out at the end of the year when my contract is up.

Surely you can't be serious about loosing your unlimited data plan.?????

Yes, a 2 gig/month plan is offered for the same price during the phone purchase/upgrade. I don't use even that much data each month so it's not an issue for me, but apparently some people do :)

Just because this bit me when I upgraded and lost my unlimited data... IF you have a Corp. discount like I do, the Corp discount will not apply to any tiered data plan. So say you now have unlimited with a 17% discount like me. You only paid $24.90... If you upgrade and select a tiered data plan like the $30\2Ggig, you can no longer apply your 17% discount to that data portion of your plan. So you will now have to pay the full $30.00... However IF you chose to go with the "Shared Everything" plan, then the 17% discount can still be applied. Big Red is really forcing the upper hand in trying to get people off 3G, Unlimited Data, and onto their Shared Everything plan....


Also just curious why not consider an upgrade to the new HTC Incredible 4G? I did, it's a decent phone... Just my 2 cents, but I think at some point all these new features they put in these phones, 4G, bigger processors, more memory... Eventually like myself I should have kept my Org Inc, the way most people use their phone, none of that stuff matters a whole lot. This Inc 4G has nicer hardware then my Org Inc, but the way I use my phone, I notice no real difference. It wasn't worth the upgrade or new 2 year contract, but I'm stuck now. The only time I really notice a difference is if I happen to not be on Wifi and am on LTE. But that is maybe 5% of the time...

Anyway just my 2 cents... Good luck picking out a new phone.
