Upgrading my desire

KentGirl

Newbie
Hi all.

I'm so confused, I don't know what to do!! I'm fairly new to Android, in that I have had my HTC Desire for just over a year now, and due to upgrade in next few weeks....

Almost everyone i know has gone with Samsung G2 as their first android of late, and rave about it, but I have my doubts....

However, I see the sensation out there now as well, and i have read just about every review I can find and comparison, and still cannot make up my mind!
I love my HTC, but as most people, i have problems with 'low storage' message, and lately my battery isn't even lasting the day when it used to quite happily last til i at least went to bed. I'm lucky if it gets to 5pm now :(

The battery life on both the sensation and SG2 are not soooooo different, but just wondering if anyone has upgraded to the sensation and noticed a big difference?
Or should I wait until something else comes out..... :o

The CPU will be more efficient on the Sensation than the desire...

Thing is out of the 2, the samsung has a much nicer screen but the sensation's build quality would win outright. Doesn't the sensation have issues with calls dropping?

I'll be honest, I'm glad I am not in the market for an upgrade as nothing really seems good enough for me.

Thanks for your reply, i think it has a problem with the 'death grip' yes...
I have read so many reviews my brain is frazzled, and i'm wondering if its even worth it.
Maybe considering just not upgrading at all, but then i have never done that in 15 years of having a phone i've always upgraded, so don't really know what my options are!!

May also have to purchase a new battery as well :(

I thought the death grip was just a wifi issue, not heard about dropped calls on the Sensation. Have heard that it has an issue where the screen stops responding after a week or so of use. Was an article on gsmarena about it. Mentioned that HTC haven't responded to that or the wifi issue so far. Disappointing if true.

HTC are generally better build quality as mentioned by SUroot. The GS2 is very plastic. Mind you all phones used to be! Slap a skin on it and don't drop it!

Not an easy decision. Sticking with my Desire for now as it makes sense for me as it does everything I need of it, though my feet are itchy.

I'm upgrading at the end of the month and I've not got a clue where to go.

I saw the Samsung Galaxy R mentioned today and I quite fancy it.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is by far the better phone in terms of hardware, but I do prefer HTC Sense to Samsung Touchwiz. If I had to choose right now I'd buy the Samsung, as you can root it and put stock Android on it. However, if you choose the Sensation, you can't do anything about the hardware..

The Galaxy S2 has an amazing looking screen and a better processor and GPU. It's also stupidly thin and light. One of the best selling points for me would be that it has 16GB of internal storage rather than the 1.5GB or whatever it is that the Sensation has.

That said, I know new technology is ALWAYS around the corner, but if you can wait a little bit longer the iPhone 5 and a possible new Google Nexus phone should be unveiled before Christmas :p The Nexus Prime (rumoured name) is rumoured to have a HD screen which will be a first.

As a sensation owner coming from a desire, i've found that the death grip only effects 2g/3g signal for me and not anything else. It typically drops 2 bars but i have to really cup my hand around the top of the phone to do this:

Under normal every day use i have yet to drop a call or have any signal problems.

I have had the 'touchscreen' issue happen to me a couple of times but *touch wood* has been as good as gold for the last few days. I am almost certain that a software update will sort it out as to me it appears to be more of a fault with the lockscreen than the touch screen itself. I have never had an issue with that area of the screen in any other app or situation and a multi-touch tester from the market shows the sensation happily picks up and responds to 5 touches without any problems at all from all areas of the screen.

Hope this helps
