Upgrading RAM

Alrighty, I currently have 2GB of ram and it is definitely not enough. What I have right now is Newegg.com - Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model 991585

Now I'm thinking about purchasing Newegg.com - G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR

It's a good deal for 8GB of ram from a reliable brand. The gskill ram is 1600 and the mushkin ram is 1333. Could I have all three sticks in my computer and be able to utilize the 10GB? Would I just have to put the 1600 in the same channel as each other?

According to me .No you cant run 8 GB on 1600 Mhz and 2GB on 1333 Mhz.
Most probably you will run 10 GB on 1333 Mhz which you dont want
Or probabaly the RAM will get rejected
Depends on your motherboard.actually !!

No matter what the ram will run at the speed of the lower(slowest) stick you have installed.

Also 32 bit means usable ram is 3.25 to 3.75gb max will be utilized

To use more than 8gig on 64bit depends on MB and version of windows (ie, home, premium, business, ulimate)

Yes they all need to be at 1600 to run at 1600. Or else it will run at the speed of the slowest ram.

As everyone else has stated, your motherboard will run at the lowest memory speed from the lowest speed stick. It's just always a good idea to have the same speed sticks in there. Slap 8 GBs in there. You won't really need more than that unless you are into some super hardcore video editing.

I have 8 GBs of Gskill in my rig and I love it. Big fan of Gskill products.

Just to add that 1600MHz is technically an RAM overclock for AM3 systems. It'll work fine if set up manually in the BIOS but 1333MHz CAS7 would offer more real-world benefit imho.

Whatever you do, stick a matched pair of 4GB modules in as your mobo is dual-channel and either sell the 2GB stick or keep it as a spare. Using it will hobble the system badly.

Amen. I built my rig 4 years ago and it has 4 GB - I'm upgrading now, and about to go with 12 GB minimum.

^thats a good price, i have corsair in right now though. i know it doesnt make much difference but i rather not mix them myself

Never been much of a fan of Corsair RAM. Had a pair die on me years ago within like 2 weeks of purchase. I stick to GSkill or Mushkin for RAM. I do have a Corsair PSU though which I love. Damn thing is a beast.
