Root Upgrading SD card with ext3

Just got my 16gb sd card. I want to upgrade my 8gb card which is with fat32 ext3 a2sd+. I am not sure how best to transfer the contents of my old cd card to the new one. I guess I have first format the new card and create an ext3 using gparted and then? Any help appreciated. thanks.

Make a nandroid backup with the old card in the phone, create an ext3 partition in the new card, copy the nandroid backup from old to new card, restore nandroid.

Thanks Usta, SUroot.
I guess before restoring the nandroid, I will need to copy the contents on the old card and paste them on the new card. Would that be correct to say?

Well I just did this and it messed up my phone.

Rebooted into clockworkmod recovery

Did a back up

Copied contents of card onto my laptop

Put in new card and formatted with a 1GB ext3 partition

Copied data back onto fat32 partition of the SD card

Booted into clockworkmod recovery

Rebooted phone

Now it is like a new phone. Have to do the initial set up again, no apps installed. nothing.

Bugger

And if I put my old SD card back in they aren't their either

And the Apps2sd application that came with the gingervillain ROM I have installed is now gone too so I can't even check what might be going on

I might just do a full wipe and start again. This sucks

@Spacedementia87,
I hope you didn't use ROM Manager in any of those steps? We don't like it because it produces too many errors.
Did the nandroid restore from CWM recovery go successfully? Do you still have that backup (look in SD card under clockwrkmod/backup directory)?

Nope, no ROM Manaager
Booted into CWM by holding volume down as I powered on. Then I went to recovery from the boot menu

The restore went successfully as far as it says. I have even tried resoring the sd-ext .img separately.

The backup is still there in the CWM folder yes. And I have it backed up on my PC too

Can you mount the sd-ext individually via clockwork mod?

Maybe the ext partition is borked. Mount usb mass storage in recovery and reformat.

Yes its unlikely, I didnt know this was on both cards.

Works for everyone else, this doesnt make sense that it can't restore.

the strangest thing is that it asked me to do the whole set up again. Like asking me for my google username as pass and all this.

So like i have never switched the phone on before.

I think I will do a full wipe and reinstall

Yes if either data.img or sd-ext.img didnt restore properly, it would be like a factory reset, however the SD card should be as normal.

Maybe its a dodgy backup. Have you an older one you can restore?

unfortunately the reason I was upgrading SD card was because of space. I had to delete the old one to make the new one.

Stupidly i accepted the message that it was successful without question
