Root Upgrading to KitKat on rooted Note 8.0 WiFi

Hi All,
I was wondering if I can upgrade my Note 8.0 [GT-N5110] to Kit-Kat although it's rooted. It's presently 4.1.2
Are there precautions I should take and is it possible to upgrade a rooted device?
Any thoughts are appreciated,

Thanks...Tom

It is possible to update a rooted device. You might lose your root in the process, which you can regain. so go for it

Thanks for the reply. What would be the easiest way to update this device? It'll be my first time trying to do this. What precautions should I take before the update?
Thanks again........Tom

I would use Samsung Kies to Backup and Update. Or you can do it OTA by going into settings and updating device.
Not too many precautions needed to be taken for an official update

Ok, Looking at disaster here. I used Kies to upgrade to KitKat 4.4.2 and did so but lost ROOT. I used Skipsoft Android Toolkit v1.1.8 to try and root again with Odin and now the tablet will not start. I am able to boot into TWRP recovery and might be able to install the proper zip file(s) to resurrect my Note. I put another ROM on my SD card but am afraid to install it not knowing the outcome. Could I possibly make it worse?
Here are the files I have on my SD Card:

CivZ-FlexBurst-KK_BL-Rev1.2-N5110_signed.zip

CivZ-KK_RUNNER_Rev1.1-kk.bl-5110.zip

N5110XXDNF1-KitKat-Bootloader_update-PACKAGE.zip

philz_touch_6.48.4-n5110.zip

I've never tried to install any of these and wouldn't even know the order to do so.
ANY help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.......Tom

I'm not sure how that happened. I've successfully rooted my KitKat Note 8.0 before..
But first step. Install the Phil'Z touch Zip.
Reboot recovery again, so you boot into Phil'Z
Wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache, and Data.
Then Install the ROM of your choice, i.e, CivZ Flexburst

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give it a try and let you know how it turns out. Too tired tonight but I'll get to it over the weekend.

Thank you again.....Tom

Ok,
Got my second wind....You said first step. Install the Phil'Z touch Zip.
DID IT THANK YOU!
Reboot recovery again, so you boot into Phil'Z

Booted into Phil'Z!!

"Wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache, and Data" (Not sure what to do)

My choices are:
Wipe Data/ Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Backup and restore
Mounts And Storage
Advanced
Phil Z Settings
Power Options
Preceding those choices are "Reboot System and Install Zip"

Can you walk me through the rest? I'm excited that with your help I can resurrect my Note!

Thank you again.....Tom
