Help uploading files

Unlike 99.99% of the universe I use earthlink/Mindspring as my email service, keeping all the emails on the server and accessing the service via a web browser rather than some specific mail program. I just got a Samsung Exhibit 4g and wanted to compose an email on Mindspring with a file attachment. This is a "fill in the blank" exercise on the Earthlink website. At the point of browsing for the local file to upload/attach, I got an Android "Select files to upload" window offering Gallery, Music Player and Voice Recorder as the only filetypes I could select from ... no way I could see to go into file manager (er, "Files") and select the target file by name as I would have expected. What's up with this? Why would Android interject itself into this dialogue? I doubt Earthlink is a party to this behavior, and I can't say I like the idea of the OS monitoring/parsing my online activity.

Side comment: I can't get by with this capacitive screen; I've been using a #2 pencil on a touchscreen pocket PC. I see that capacitive styli exist but they appear very stubby and therefore unlikely to resolve the problem. This could be a deal breaker. Any "pointy" styli?

i can do that the only way when:

from menu: pick File
select folder
then select share and chosse way you wanna share, then select file data what you like to send, and here is problem:
if you don't use any email software not too many options left, there is no options too share via web browser, i try install other then oryginal and they do not shows up on menu to select from share options,
but work great with email software

Thanks for the suggestion. Basically, select the file first, but you have to be working with an email app.

So, hypothetical situation-- I find a job description online and want to upload my resume pdf to the company's HR website. Or I want to upload a sales brochure to a client's online procurement site. Though I presumably have the pdf on my phone's SD card, there's no way to upload it via the web browser?

Sheeeesh.
