Help Urgent Help Required: TouchWiz Home and all other apps stopped working

Hi,

This is my first post and I am not an expert in using the Tabs.

Since yesterday morning, I am having serious issues with my Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1. Every time I click on any folder on the home screens, I get an error ""Unfortunately, TouchWiz Home has stopped.".

When I try to use any app which requires Keyboard, that app stops working too. Giving the same type of error "Unfortunately, xxx has stopped."

I tried almost all type of solutions available on this forum for such issues and many other googled solutions (but resetting the tab).

Another example - I received a text message. When I open the message app and select the unread message, the messaging app stops working with same error - "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped."

I don't want to reset my tab as I have data which can not be backed up or restored. I use app to buy my travel cards which can not be stored out of app and can not be restored once lost.

1. I have cleared cache and data of TouchWiz - Didn't work out.
2. I installed Nova launcher - Didn't work out.
3. I uninstalled Amazon App store (which I installed in last few days) - Didn't resolve the issue.
4. I restarted the Tab several times - Nope again.

I saw on one forum about users suggesting rebooting into recovery mode but I am not sure where it will erase my data or not. I don't want to loose that one particular travel app data.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Steve

Make sure your date, time and time zone are correct. N incoorcet date and time can cause sync errors with Google services.

Thank you but I don't think it has anything to do with the problem. The date, time and zone are all correct.

Problem is with TouchWiz and Keyboard I believe because whenever any of these two are accessed, I get the error message.

Ok well it is always one of the first and simplest things to check. You'd be surprised how often that is the problem.

I have two of the these Tab 2 10.1 tablets. Both gradually updated since their original 4.04 (I think) and were at 4.2.2. One of them became very unstable after the latest update got pushed and I got a lot of "application stopped" errors. The other was (and remains) perfectly fine. The Samsung Keyboard, Google Play, and various other apps would stop.

I did the usual stuff:
1. Uninstalled apps not being used. No change.
2. Went in and cleared app caches (you may not want to do this globally since you have precious data there). No change.
3. Factory data reset, then re-set up everything. Improvement, but still the tablet was wonky and apps would crash, or the tablet would reboot. MAybe only 1/4 of the frequency as before the FDR, but still too often.

Eventually I rooted it, and flashed an OMNIROM version of Kit Kat. The tablet has been running smoothly ever since. See my thread in All Things Root.

I would recommend finding a way to get your data / travel cards (what are they?) into a more portable / restorable form, then start some serious wiping and see how it works out. Having important data only available on one device without backup / restore capability is a recipe for disaster.

I never did find out what the problem was on mine... I assume something was corrupted in the last update it received, while the other tablet I have didn't suffer from the same corruption, for whatever reason.
