The president of my company just did the ota .596 and his phone is effed. It will load up to the main screen...can switch from screen to screen but cannot select anything in settings, etc. Phone starts lookout but once lookout goes away the phone black screens with just the notification bar. Can turn it on and off, but nothing is accessable...

Serious help needed because I told him to perform the update.

Correction...anything that opens cannot close and his hard buttons are non responsive. Hours can I fix this thing without him losing ask his info!

When I press the power button and home button to boot up I get the android guy with a triangle and exlamation point.

Well he lose all his data?
I have 4 options:
Reboot system now
Apply update from sdcard
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition

when he entitled.596 did it write everything anyway?

Correction on issue...after 30 seconds of a clean boot everything freezes.I'll report back in a minute

Also he is non rooted and full stock.

yes, If you do a factory reset all will be lost. His apps will redownload but the data for them will be gone.

So is he hosed since I cannot do anything when booted? Trying to keep him happy. It should have just easily installed over his previous os without any issues...what would have caused it to screw up?

I had similar problems when I first installed the update (I did it manually). The phone was very unresponsive and I wasn't able to do anything with it. I did a reboot and the same thing was happening so I let it sit all night and when I got up in the morning it was working perfectly. I say let it sit and see what it does in a couple of hours. Don't touch anything, just cut it on and let if figure out what it wants to do...

While it is booted and all locked up I tried calling it and it does ring but the phone shows no call...totally frozen like a brick...sounds like factory reset is only option?

Did he ever do anything as far as what you can do with rooting to his phone?
Negative...though this may give him the idea to start

You left it on right?

Yup, I left it on. Not sure if the problem was unique to my phone, but it seemed to work itself out of whatever it was doing and works perfectly now. It hasn't frozen since I installed GB (last Sat night). I would try and let it sit for a couple of hours just to see what it does. If it doesn't work then a restore might be needed. You could try backing it up through usb if you end up restoring. Not sure how you would get contacts other than syncing with gmail.

He had them sync'd through outlook and backup assistant and a factory reset won't touch the sdcard so his pictures and videos will be ok.

My phone was not in that type of state but it was very unresponsive after manually (method 2) but after a few hours it worked itself out (???)

might not happen to you, but hopefully it does.
