Help US Cellular S3 stuck in ODIN Mode! please help!

dakuhn17

Lurker
I was not very smart and tried to root my phone without researching it first. I used the tutorial on Redmondpie dot com (First link that comes up when you search "How to root galaxy s3" on google). I got stuck after step 6. One issue may be that i used ODIN v1.85 instead of ODIN v3.07, but when i used ODIN it crashed halfway through. Ever since, its been stuck in ODIN mode.

It says "Downdloading... Do not turn off target !!"

In the top left corner it has :
ODIN MODE (in red)
PPRODUCT NAME: SCH-R530U
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (5 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (in gray)

What can I do to fix my phone? please help! :(

okay well now im confused. When i started my phone it has the verizon logo in the bottom right. My phone is a US Cellular. In the middle of the screen it says 4G LTE and there are circles of colors. it is stuck on this screen.

i did use another program to try to fix it from creadevandroid dot com. it was an attempt to reset it to factory default settings

Sounds like you flashed the wrong thing tbh. The phone is fine though if it can still get into Odin Mode. Youll have to flash the correct firmware for your phone version/carrier. Im not in the US but i know SamMobile.com is the place to find official firmware that you can flash via Odin

The best place to ask that is in one of the sub-forums at top of this page that most suits your carrier version mate. Theres a lot of different versions of the s3 and they need different firmwares
Want me to ask a mod to move this thread there?

Yeah, im not from the US so i dont know which forum suits your phone but ive asked a Mod and theyre pretty good on here so if the thread gets moved, check your pm and the mod will send u a link to it
Good luck man

Heh, forgive me because I am a little befuddled on where to move this.

As of now, let's worry about getting your device up and running. ;)

I did some research and found this:

[Restore]Stock Odin Files SCH-R530 LG1 - U.S. Cellular Galaxy S III Development - RootzWiki

Now, I am also downloading the same file to check it out....however it is downloading at a freakishly slow rate....don't know why but it is :(

What I am thinking might have to be done, is extracting the .tar files from the .zip after downloading it. Then using those .tar files to flash in ODIN.

NOT SURE YET!!. So don't go get ahead of ourselves here :) NOT SURE OF THAT FILE YET....IT LISTS AT THE SCH-R530 AND NOT THE SCH-R530U---as you have indicated that you have....

Edit: It finished downloading during the night and I extracted the .zip file.
In that file is an md5.tar file that appears to be the correct file to use in ODIN. (probably should use the newest version of ODIN...3.0)

COMBINATION_R530UVXALG1_R530UUSCALG1_830554_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5

And from what I read at RootzWiki, it will wipe your internal memory.

I just need verification for that.

To my (admittedly limited) knowledge the US Cellular and MetroPCS variants are identical in their hardware, so the firmware and kernels should be interchangeable. I see you've created a topic in the MetroPCS - ATR sub-forum; that's cool for now as it may bring a solution quicker. Once you're sorted we'll merge both so that anyone finding themselves in the same situation in the future can benefit.

Btw, the root instructions you followed are for the GT-i9300 variant, so you may have flashed an incompatible kernel. Reflashing with the correct kernel might be all that's needed.

I think before the Op goes any further, we need to make sure he is in the proper ATR sub forum so we can best Guide him, so Dakuhn17, we need to make sure as Slug mentioned that US Cellular is the same as Metro PCS

I would also read this thread over at XDA, as it seems to have some good info for you, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764675

I will Also post Skip's Toolkit below, which seems to be the easiest way to root your device, good luck

Now to figure where this thread goes, LOL
