USB 3.0 dock available?

Newbie
I see several suggestions for USB 2.0 docks (bedside, car, etc.) but does anyone make one that uses USB 3.0? Seems like the connection would be more secure and you would have faster charge times.

The extra micro-B USB3 pins carry data, not power. You can plug a USB 2 cable into the OEM Samsung charger and the phone will charge at the same rate.

Umm.. If I am remembering right, usb 2.0 provides 500mA and usb 3.0 provides 900mA? (Assuming your computer has a usb 3.0 port, offcource)

Those are the amps provided according to the standard when connecting to a computer, yes. But:

  1. In the context of bedsides and cars (per OP), you're probably not using the dock to connect to a computer, but to charge and cradle the phone in a specific orientation
  2. 900 mA is not a "fast" charge when considering this phone, probably about 10-15% per hour if the phone is idle. If you are using GPS/Nav in a car I don't know that 900mA would even keep the phone charging. I see nearly 60%/hr when using a 2.1A charger, regardless of using a USB3 cable or not
  3. Outside the realm of computer connection, whether a dock, charger, or cable is "USB3" or not is irrelevant to the amperage provided. On a micro-B USB3 cable, the 4 "extra" pins that make the plug bigger than a regular USB2 cable carry data only. Power is provided by the "USB2 part"
A micro USB3 connector may be physically more secure in the port, but I don't know for sure. So, that issue notwithstanding, using a USB3 dock to charge only is not necessary. Simply get a wall adapter that can output 2.1 amps EDIT: and use that adapter to power the dock. This assumes that the dock doesn't have some sort of current limiter in it; I don't know if that's typical or not.
 
True, but the one jwither suggested draws it's power from computer, that is why I hd to say that if using computer, it does matter. :)
