USB audio output on a Droid?

Does this issue also have anything to do with why I have noticed that several Samsung, Motorola, HTC and a few others suddenly don't allow you to mount the SD card for mass storage? Meaning:
I have loaded music files onto a few newer model phones. I can stream the music over BT but when I plug the phones micro USB cable into the Chrysler Uconnect system's USB connector, I get a choice of 4 different option modes and I have tried them all with no luck. In the past, you could choose "mount as disc drive" however that is not any longer one of the options from the phone.
I have tried to find out more information about this and some point to the phones now supporting MTP instead of "mass storage". I don't fully understand this (or the real difference). This same issue is not only with the Chrysler vehicles but I have read similar reports with Ford, GM, Toyota, Hyundai, Honda and more.
Thanks in advance for any help and information that anyone may be able to offer. I have tried to get help from the phone companies but their general response is "I don't know and we mostly work with the BT side of the phone". I can't seem to be able to get to anyone that works on the USB section.

Efforts are ongoing to enable the USB audio feature in a modded Android/Linux kernel.

But if you want the USB audio enabled via official firmware/kernel, please vote (i.e. request to Google) here:
Issue 24614 - android - Enable USB audio on the Galaxy Nexus (or any Android 4.0 device) - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

I've read about as much of this thread as I can tolerate and haven't seen any discussion on ASIO drivers. Has anyone looked into this option yet? My understanding is that because of the linux background to the android os, one might be able to modify an existing driver package and use off the shelf parts sold by guitar center to get streaming audio through your USB host. For example, I have an m-audio USB mobile pre that will do much more than just playback audio allowing for duplex audio communications(in theory) - and also the device runs off of Vcc lines on USB.

Thought/opinions?
