Help USB Charging

I tried to searching for this so I apologize if it is a repeated subject.

I am very interested in buying a new XOOM. However, when I went to the store, I was very disappointed to see the charger is just a flimsy metal tube. I do not like and often do not buy electronics with non-standard adapters. Most of my electronics are charges via mini or micro usb ports. That way I travel with just a few adapters.

Is it possible to charge the XOOM via the USB port?

Thanks

No, the USB port doesn't deliver the required voltage to charge the Xoom. The charger does look flimsy, but it seems to be fine in actually use.

The Xoom battery is impressive. It will EASILY last a day under very heavy use requiring a charge only at night where convenient. With moderate use I charge every other day.

they are right i was really concerned about the charger too but compared too ANY device i have owned in the past 10 years this battery is great! lasts over two days with moderate use and charges SUPER fast

one of my employees also has one and his dog broke the tip on the charger so be careful with it.

it might also be the longest charging cord i have seen

I love just about everything with my Xoom except for the charger. I always have to wiggle the prongs that go into the outlet several times whenever I want to charge it. So I got fed up and came up with a solution. A few years ago I bought an ac to car adapter at Bestbuy and today I picked up the Xoom car charger. Now with one cable I can charge in my car and at home and I do not have the flaky charger problem anymore.

Funny you mention this... I bought my wifi Xoom at Costco on the first day of availability. When I got home, I tried to charge it to full level. But it wouldn't charge. Took it back and after testing around a bit, we found that the charger wasn't working (or was it the connection?) and they replaced the charger and everything has been fine since. Except I left the charger at a hotel and never to be found again!
