Usb cord question

So our mirror decided to just fall off the bathroom wall today and in the process cutting my cord that came with my nexus. We've had a few diffferent android phones in the house so we have a plethora of replacement cords, however my gf claimed that some didn't charge her Nexus as well as the one from Samsung. I still have the wall portion and want to know if i can just swap out the cord from an older phone and if it will charge effectively.

it should. When you plug it up go to battery in the settings on the phone and make sure it's charging as "ac" if so then you're good.

Well an LG vortex cord doesn't work, but the Dx cord is at least

I own many different cords and many different wall chargers (2 HTC, 1 Samsung, 1 Asus...maybe another) and they all charge my Gnex. We had one bad cord I tossed out when I bought a buttload of cheap (and very nice) cables from monoprice.com

just beware some cheap are cheap for a reason I bought 3 of ebay about 2-3 months ago now only one works! where the wire meets the usb plug at either end tend to come loose so its a false economy! Btw i bought 3 because it was buy 2 get 1 free
