"USB device not recognized" on Vista 64

I can't get my Desire to connect with my computer. I routinely get the "USB Device not Recognized" error when I plug it in. Only twice in several days of trying have I been able to have the phone recognized on my comp. This is with or without Sync 2.0.38 installed. Phone issue or OS?

I am running Vista Ultilmate 64. Phone seems to connect fine on the girlfriends laptop running Vista Home.

Maybe an USB connection problem.
- Try a shorter USB cable.
- Connect directly to USB on PC, not over an external USB hub.
- Try front USB and back USB on the PC.

i know it's no help, but i have vista ultimate 64 and have no problems, although i must say if i connect phone as disk drive, it does take quite a while before pc will recognize it.

If it's a problem with a missing USB 64bit-driver you could HTC Sync install on PC
(You don't have to use it :D)

After I performed the USB hack to store more stuff on my SD card, I get USB issues. Sometimes I have to put it into HTC sync with HTC sync open for it to work as a disk drive.

bit rubbish but meh. just fiddle with settings.
