Help USB Host?

OK, I know ICS has USB host functionality built in. I was wondering if anyone has got it working on this phone or if anyone even knows if it works with this sense crap they've put in. I really want to run a USB DAC off of this phone because the output off of the audio jack is subpar at best. I have looked through the settings a bit, but I cant find it.

haha ive been tryin to get this thing in host for a week almost to try nd root my prime from it but that's a nogo. You'll probably need an USB OTG cable to get it into host. That's pretty much your only shot

Ok, I just ordered one from Amazon. I will try with some flash drives and stuff. I really hope USB audio works, I really want to get a FiiO e17, but I don't want to spend that kind of money unless I know it is going to work. Has anyone else tried to get host to work, for any application?

I don't agree. It's tons better than the triumph. It plays the bass nice and loud in my car (LOUD) with 0 distortion.

Have you tried power amp? The equalizer on that will make your music sound a lot better than stock.

OK, I guess it has good sound output for a phone. But I have a Cowon D2 and I guess I am spoiled by how good it sounds. I played around with poweramp, and it helped a bit, but it is still not good enough for a daily music player. It still distorts the treble a bit and then I can't use google music and access all of my songs that way

OK, looking around on the interwebs, it looks like this feature is missing from most, if not all stock kernels. This sucks, because I know it can be done with my Nook Color because someone did something with the kernel. They built in USB host into a GB kernel, and somehow enabled USB audio.

Here's the thread

Here's someone who got it working with an external amp.

I know that the kernel source is not out yet, but when it is, would it be theoretically possible to add this? It doesn't seem to be too terribly difficult, but I don't really even know. I have very limited coding experience, as in one semester of Java that I slept through, but I would be willing to help in any way I can once source is released.

Open Handset Alliance Page about it

For me, it literally can't get any better than it is. The bass is loud enough to irritate my ears (lol) without any distortion or high frequency drowning. Maybe it's my headphones?

I'm tempted to try one of these USB Amps if it can sound better :o

I researched this a bit recently and here is what I found...

The first Evo 3d version had the USB I/O that allowed it, but only one rom supported it. However for hardware revision 2, they removed that function. Testing with some software I found backs this up.

Evo V's are all Rev. 2.
You can put all the software you want, it probably won't work.

This.. really sucks. I am not doubting you, but do you remember where you found this info? Also, Leslie, I know that you used to be very active with the OV. Does it support this function with any roms that you know of? I think I read somewhere that the Optimus S hardware supported it, but was neutered by software, so maybe there's hope for that at least? I really want a good pmp and it seems that besides sound quality, phones are better in every way

I have the OTG cable (had it since before this thread), and no, it doesn't work. I also ran the diagnostics and such all said no. I even installed the OTG drivers, still no luck.

There are several hurdles to overcome.
The rom has to support it, no ICS rom supports it for Evo 3d.
The one GB rom that does support it, doesn't work on rev .002 hardware (even if it did, there is a good chance it would loop on our phones)

XDA has tons of threads on the subject. I spent a while looking and everything I saw said the same thing, no luck on 002 and no luck on ICS.

I'm pretty sure the OV doesn't support this. It would have been major cutting edge stuff if it had, but I will check.

I'm still very active on the OV, Elite and Evo V. I have roms for the OV and Evo V, with the Elite on the way.

Dang, this is really disappointing. Do you know of a way to get host working on the Optimus V? I want a pmp with smartphone features. I have looked around but haven't been able to find anything

Find a used Evo 4g or Nexus.
I have yet to get it working on my Evo 4g but I plan to.
