Help USB issue

Hi, first time posting here... Anyways though my Droid X2 seems to have a weird issue, i really am dreading a hard reset but will, whenever I connect my Droid X2 to my PC using the included USB cable, it causes the PC to freeze. I disconnect the phone and everything is fine again... The only exception to this is if I open Windows Explorer first (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer) Tried it with my brothers Droid X2 (same phone, basically Verizon was offering a 2 for 1 special when we got our phones) and same results. Any ideas before I go do a hard reset of the phone?

Thing that concerned me was it never did this before until the new update to 2.3.4 or (1.3.380.MB870.Verizon.en.us).. No im not new to Android phones either. So I should be able to at least put the phone into USB mass storage mode to enable it to be seen as a disk drive. And yes I'm running XP (All my hardware Windows 7 just plain ignores)

Sometimes an OTA update will bork a perfectly running device. We see those reports across many Android devices.

If it happened to my phone I'd be inclined to clear all cache and data, preserve/backup my apps etc, and run a factory data reset.
