Help USB not recognized connecting Samsung Captivate

Hi,
I had to do a factory reset on my Captivate (stock Froyo) and ever since then I cannot connect it to any computer. When I connect the USB cable that came with the phone (and one which I purchased) I get a pop up on my computer that says USB Device Not Recognized. When I go into Device Manager there is the yellow yield sign on the USB device and when I double click on it there is a Code 43 message. I try to update the drivers but it tells me that the drivers that are there are the correct ones. I never get the option on my phone to Mount the phone. I have tried all the various settings (Ask on Connection, Mass Storage, USB Debugging) but can't even get Windows to recognize the device. I have uninstalled the drivers and downloaded new ones with the same result. I have installed Kies but it doesn't recognize my phone. I have tried this on 3 different operating systems: Win 7 64 bit, Win 7 32 bit and Win XP with the same result. the computer doesn't recognize the device.
any one else have this issue?

Have you tried different USB ports on the PC?

Have you tried a different USB cable?

Do those first. If no luck after that, you could be faced with a bad USB port on the Captivate itself. It's very delicate (hence the sliding door) and I've seen several fail. Including my own. Twice.

Hi,
Yes I have tried 2 different USB cables and all the ports on 3 laptops and 1 desktop.
I will look into the USB connection on the phone. That might be it as it is good enough to charge but not connect to mount or be recognized as a device.

thanks!

Two years of not being able to connect. After SCORES of installs, uninstalls, updates, plug, unplug, debugging, no debugging...

I just read the post about the USB cable possibly being bad. I don't have a new cable, so

I BLEW INTO THE USB PORT ON THE PHONE, AND NOW IT WORKS!

I don't believe it.

I guess that's why they put a door there. Close it and keep the crap out.

Augh!
