Help USB Tethering?

Bloomk

Lurker
So I currently have an LG Sentio with T-Mobile, that I am using as a USB modem as a stop gap internet connection.

But in 2 weeks or so I'm switching over to Sprint and getting an Optimus S, and what I want to know is: What do I have to do to use it as a USB modem as well, I don't have a wifi card for my desktop so I can't use the wifi tethering.

Is there just a driver I need to download like the sentio?

If anyone could write some simple instructions keeping in mind this is my first android phone, but I have some mild experience with tethering.

Also will I have to subscribe to Sprints "Mobile Hotspot" feature? It's not a problem if I do, I'd just rather not if I don't have to.

Thanks, I know you probably get this question all the time but I didn't really understand a lot of the other threads I read and I need to make sure I have whatever I need downloaded before I get the phone.

No Wifi, no hotspot, never even tried that stuff. Just ran a USB cable from the phone to the PC, paid four bucks for the software and now I’m a tetherin’ foo. No data cap, but it is kinda pokey, rather like the good old dialup days. I don’t even bother with Youtube and such, unless I load the video first.

I thought its pokiness had more to do with the phone than the service, but it turns out you’re referring to the same phone. So maybe it’s Klink... no idea.

EDIT Oops, you’re describing your Sentio connection, not the Optimus, so I can revert to my initial theory: the Opti is just a pokey 3G droid, but worth the zero dollars I paid for it.
