Im not tech savy and im trying to import my photos from my droid to my laptop but when i insert my USB cable and mount nothing happens on my computer end - so if anyone could help with that, great! - but also when my USB is in and i go to my gallery (on phone) it says there is no SD card (which there is) and it shows no pics but as soon as i pull out USB all pics are showing in gallery...any ideas of what to do ?

Thanks!

What phone do you have? Some phones has special connection modes, but normally when you plug in a USB cable from your phone to a computer, the phone should show a USB icon in the notification bar. Pull that down and touch USB connected. Then it should prompt you to connect as mass storage. Do that and the sd card should show up on your phone as a removable drive.

That means the card is unmounted from the phone, which is what you want so that way it can be mounted to the PC. How long are you waiting for a pop-up on the computer? Sometimes, it can take up to a minute or so for the card to be fully mounted to the computer.

Make sure you use the link I provided and have the Motorola drivers installed (Assuming you're using a Motorola Droid).

Edit: nvm, I think Sitlet got it :)

When you plug in the usb... And the computer connects to your phone... Your phone will connect the sd card like a flash drive.
Only one device can read your card at a time... So that is why the phone will not see the card till you unplug it or unmount it to the computer.

If the pc does not automatically pop up with an option to view the card..
Then manually... Use your mouse to open the MY COMPUTER and find the new REMOVABLE Drive. Then double click it to open the drive

Depending on how your computer is set up that may be normal. The real question is whether or not you can access the SD card once you've connected and mounted. By "mount" you mean pull down the notification bar and enable USB storage, right?

That's definitely normal (see above).

I'm having a similar issue with my Samsung Smartphone GT1500. I'm having problems transferring photos from my camera to my computer...I used to be able to do this, but now I can't for some reason. When I plugged my phone into the USB on my computer, a screen on my phone would pop up and say something about Mass Data Storage (etc) and I could select an option, and then I was able to transfer photos onto my computer. However, that little pop up window doesn't appear any more, and instead a window on my computer pops up and says I don't have administrator privilages to install "Samsung Android USB Device" onto my computer (which never used to happen). I've tried more than one computer and still get the same result, so I'm thinking a setting got changed on my phone or something. Please advise!

Please note: I've seen posts that tell me to go to (on my phone) Settings>About Phone>USB, but I when I select About Phone, there are no options related to USB...?

What you want to do is go to menu>settings>applications>USB settings and change it to prompt on connection. That way you will be given the option each time you plug it in on how you'd like your phone to connect. You need Kies mode to do the updates, but mass storage to copy files.

lunatic59: Thanks for the info. However, when I go to menu>settings>applications, there is no USB settings listed as an option (this is my problem). The only options are: Unknown Sources, Manage Applications, Running Services, Development, and Samsung Apps. Thoughts/suggestions?

Click on "Development"

Make sure "USB Debugging" is NOT checked.

Then when you plug in the phone into the PC - the phone will pop up with an option to turn on USB Storage, which will allow your PC to see the Phone's storage.
