Use Moto G as mp3 player - no activation

I was wondering if I could use this phone without activation. From music to photos, would it still work? I got 2 different answers from sales rep at bestbuy. i could buy an S3 but too pricey. Thanks in advance

Any phone that works can do 2 things:

1) Call 911

2) Play music, videos, display pictures.

It doesn't have to be connected to an account. (Even a reported stolen phone has to be able to call 911.)

Oh, and it will work on Wifi too.

This is exactly what I do. I bought it for a cheap phone to use at work just to stream music over wifi. I did try it on T-Mo for a month (no contract) but it's since been disconnected.
