Help use smartphone as tablet

Hello all,
I've just been given a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I want to use it only as a tablet, i.e. connecting to internet via wi-fi only.
Is there any way to remove the "No SIM" message which keeps appearing in my "Ongoing" notifications?
Is there anything else I need to consider?

Not without rooting the device afaik. With root there's an Xposed module to suppress the warning.

p.s. moving this to the Samsung Galaxy S2 sub-section, in case my knowledge is out-of-date.
