Help Used AAHK - Device Unresponsive at Bootloader

Cronofan

Newbie
Hi everyone. I recently decided I would try to root my HTC Desire HD (Provider is Telus (Canada)), I followed all the directions using the AAHK to root my phone. As I was rooting it, I got to the point where my phone was being downgraded before rooting it through the AAHK and my phone will not reboot. When I press power and volume down I get into the Hboot but I cannot scroll down using the down button to use the recovery tool.

Any advice on this issue? Is my phone bricked?

Need a bit more information. You said your phone was in the process of being downgraded. What happened while you were downgrading? Was there any message on the screen of your PC?

By any chance did you download, unzip or run AAHK with an anti virus/malware program running in the background?

From what I remember it said that the phone will ask me to press power and down to continue. It had done that and it said to just press enter and it brought me back to the AAHK screen. Meanwhile on my phone I had the bootloader screen and I couldnt scroll down to any of the other options and thats where it sits

Could you check if your SDCard is formatted as FAT or FAT32?

I am guessing this is the part you got stuck in:

Starting stock recovery the first time to init....

Steps:
1. When you see the ugly red triangle, push/hold vol-UP and then push power to
start stock recovery.
2. When you get to the blue stock recovery menu, choose reboot and push power.

another user had the same issue, where hboot was unresponsive until he pulled/swapped the sd card.

if youre booting back into the OS and the phone is working and useable, prolly the best thing at this point is to pick up a new sd card, and card reader. run the aahk again after formatting the new sd to FAT32. it will need to remake the sd into a gold card, and redeposit PD98IMG onto it.

you can attempt to fix the old sd by backing it up,and then reformatting it in the PC with the card reader.

if i remember correctly, there is an option in AAHK to flash the downgrade as an ruu from fastboot. you might try changing it to this setting,so it leaves hboot and the sd card out of the equation. :)

Good to see you here scotty. I had the second option you mentioned in mind. Have never done it or guided anyone through it. I seem to recall you helped someone do it awhile back, I just cannot seem to find the thread.

As long as the device still has USB Debugging enabled it might be the best way to do it.

So as I mentioned I removed the SD card, I backed it up and wiped it. However I still cannot get into my OS. I can however move around the boot menu with my SD card in. When I try to use the AAHK from the boot menu I get the message ERROR ERROR ERROR
Phone not plugged in
OR
Driver not isntalled
OR USB Debugging not enabled.
ERROR ERROR ERROR

My phone was all of those things before it went wonky,

On the HBOOT menu this is what I have

ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROPP-0438
RADIO-26.10.04.03_M
eMMC-boot

HBOOT USB PLUG

FASTBOOT
RECOVER
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC

When the HBOOT is loading it says "no image found" when scanning the SD card.

Please help!

sorry for the delayed reply, but what we need to do now is fgure out your main version and CID so we can find an ruu for you to run,and get back to a working phone. assuming you do not have the android sdk set up,use the folowing directions to get some info, and then paste the output here:

first download and install these drivers: revolutionary drivers

then,download this small file:
mini-adb.zip

-unzip it,and place the unzipped folder onto the root of your C drive(not inside a folder)

-open a cmd window(with win 7,click start bubble, type "command" or "cmd" in hte search box)

-now change to your mini-adb directory(assuming you didnt chagne the name). type in the black cmd window that opened on your PC:
cd c:\mini-adb

-pull the battery in your phone for a few seconds. hold volume down, then power. hold them both until you see the white/colored writing hboot screen

-select "fastboot" from the hboot menu with the vol rocker/power button

-in your cmd window type:
fastboot devices

it should output your phones serial number. if so youre good to go. if not, youre apparently having a driver issue. i usually recomend these drivers from Revolutionary: modified htc drivers download and install the drivers(you should just have to run that file). afterwards, unplug your phone, plug it back in. make sure its in fastboot. as soon as you get a result from "fastboot devices" your ready to procede to the next step.

-in your cmd window, type(or copy/paste,is much easier):
fastboot getvar all

-copy the info that outputs here. right click in your cmd window, click mark, highlight it all in white. hit enter. paste the info here. it will help us know which ruu for you to run. :)

Oops nevermind, figured this part out, will reply when i get farther

excellent! next question: do you know if your phone originally shipped with froyo? or did it ship with gingerbread? if you dont know, thats ok,well just err on the side of caution and assume gingerbread ;)

also,am i understanding correctly that the sd that was in the phone when you ran the aahk,is now what you have in the phone, and it is no longer jamming up hboot?

I am fairly certain that it shipped with Froyo, as I remember upgrading to Gingerbread. I bought it when it was recently released (2 months) which was before Gingerbread, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I actually put a brand new SD card in, the same exact kind (Sandisk 8GB) card, into the phone.

ok,since we now have a new sd in the phone, there is no chance that it is still a correctly made gold card. so unless you have another android phone that you could use to make a gold card manually, well have to try and stick with ruus that will pass your CID check.

for ease of rooting, this one would be the best:
RUU_Ace_TELUS_WWE_1.84.661.1_R_Radio_12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2_release_168987_signed.exe - download now for free. File sharing. Software file sharing. Free file hosting. File upload. FileFactory.com

same one,faster download:
Shipped ROMs

however it is a froyo rom, wich is fine if youre sure your dhd shipped with froyo.

if you want to flash a GB rom,you can try this one:
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_TELUS_WWE_2.43.661.1_R_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_194001_signed.exe - download now for free. File sharing. Software file sharing. Free file hosting. File upload. FileFactory.com

faster download:
Shipped ROMs

keep in mind that choosing the newer rom, even if it fails, may raise the main version, wich will complicate the process if we need to find a different ruu,due to their limited availability. it may require to unlock the bootloader, install a recovery, and enter some adb commands to change the main version back to a low number. as such,id pretty strongly reccomend that you try the first one if youre pretty sure you bought your phone prior to the release of gingerbread.

these are utilities that you run on your pc,with the phone plugged in. start the utility(run as administrator if possible) with the phone in "fastboot" and follow the onscreen directions.

the .exe utilities can be finicky,so if you have trouble getting it to run, you can extract "rom.zip" in the following manner:
-start the utility
-check the "i understand" box to move on to the next screen
-hide the utility temporarily out of site
-search your C drive for "rom.zip". you will find it in a temporary location
-transfer rom.zip to a safe location on your PC
-unhide and cancel the utility
-rom.zip can be renamed to PD98IMG and flashed in hboot, from a FAT32 sd card

im off to work, but i will try and watch if you have troubles. hopefully that first ruu will get you back up and running,at wich point you can simply run the aahk again to become s- off and superCID :)

If you pick the Froyo RUU it will also simplify the process of rooting through AAHK. If you decide to root again I would recommend doing it through Ubuntu 32-bit using a Live CD.

A million thanks! I am successfully booting back into my phone now! I am going to try running the AAHK again, probably through Windows though since I don't have Ubuntu or any Linux OS and I don't really want to go through the hassle of installing a different OS just to root with. I will attempt to root again and let you know how it goes. Thanks once again for all the help and support, you guys are awesome

I am now attempting to use the AAHK again and it seems to have gotten stuck at this part:
