My Droid no longer charges, the pins inside the USB connector (phone side) have bent, and one has snapped off in my deft attempt to fix it. I've got around 90% charge, so attempting to unroot is my first response. Assuming that doesn't go well, I'll likely look to buying one off of craigslist. I notice in perusing the list ahead of time that some stipulate that they have clean / dirty ESN's, and the clean one's run higher. My question is, how to know if the seller's honest? Would asking them to to make a test phone call be enough to confirm that?

The short answer is that you can't really know if they are honest. A "dirty" ESN generally means the phone has been reported lost or stolen and you won't be able to activate it at all. You can get the ESN and call Verizon to verify if it is good or even activate it on your account before you hand over the money, but even that doesn't mean you are 100% in the clear. I would personally get a picture of the person's license plate and drivers license if possible so you have a way to track them down if you have to.

So if the ESN is bad, simply making a call won't cut it then, huh?

RyanB - I have a Droid in great shape that I plan to sell as soon as the Thunderbolt actually launches. I live near Rochester (about an hour south) so if you're up for waiting a couple of weeks, we could possibly arrange to meet at a Corporate Verizon store.

PM me if you might be interested.
