Ok before this gets out of hand im gunna shed some light on some good info.

1) Rom Manger

Seriously people dont use it. you guys dont even have a custom recovery.. ask any prevail owner how his phone is doing after rom manager and he will tell you dead. really.. no odin etc nothing as it overwrites a bunch of crap that doesnt need to be touched

2) Factory Reset

There is 3 levels of whoops;

Whoops im full oin space/things keep crashing and i dont know why/phone is slow = factory reset. its like going into windows and making a new user and then deleteing your old one.. wiping out all your settings, files, documents...

The oh crap system keeps crashing cuz i removed something/its bootlooping = re flash the rom via adb or clockworkmod recovery. this is more like reinstalling windows because you mesed up the "windows" folder and safe mode wont help you.

Finally there is ahcrap i did something stupid, i cant get into recovery. if for some reason you think formatting your system partition as fat32 is a great idea then you may need this.... this is kinda like throwing away your entire computer because you wiped out the hard drive.

There is a lot of misconception about factory reset. factory reset will restore your phone to absolute factory settings and form, AS LONG AS YOU NEVER ROOTED. loggin in as a different user might change the background and desktop but it doesnt mean crap if i decided to format my c drive. factory reset assumes that /system is all set and still the same, and just wipes out the /data partition (think My Documents).

I second all of that!! I am a living testimony of all of that. This is my first android phone and on my third day of having it I was teaching my family and friends that had android (even tablet) how to use it and get the best out of it. It wasn't enough so I started searching what else I could do and I found out about rooting and custom rom so I rooted the precedent without knowing much what I was doing.

I know rooting is not a threat to the cell but what you do once you are rooted, I saw something in a forum about rom manager and how useful and needed it was to install custom roms so I downloaded it and installed it (still not knowing much about it) I clicked on something random and it flashed it and in 3 min my phone was DEAD! No light, no charging, NOTHING! Fortunally for me that happened on the 14th day of me having the precedent so I returned it to walmart (I didn't lie, at that point I didn't know what have happened and I refused to accept it was my fault since I was typing a message when it died) and they gave me a new one.

After that I started reading about Rom Manager and I saw on the prevail forum the sticky that says not to use rom manager (the precedent forum wasn't created yet) THEN I was sure it was my fault for killing my baby.

If you read the "Need rom and fast" thread you'll know I am also a living testimony to some of those "Whoops".

I learned the hard way but it has tough me a lot, just like my first computer (my dad's :) ) I started playing with it, learning as I went and messed it up a bunch of times but now I troubleshoot a lot of people, fix computers and make websites (only html, css, php, and a little of javascript) for different people. I am a person that learns better by experience and I like moving forward, not staying on the same place. Maybe some day I'll learn to make android apps and custom roms (a FARRR some day, I am too busy to learn that now ;)
