Hello, I am considering to buy the Galaxy Note within this month. I checked the Galaxy Note in several stores. I am concerned with the lag, poor video playback sometimes, possible black crush and S-pen not functioning near the edges of the screen, etc. I have been waiting to see how the official version of the ICS performs on the Note. Could those who have updated the international version of the Note share their experience with us? Any user experience appreciated. Thanks.

Definitely dont buy one if you've seen all these problems in the several stores you mention. Why are you even asking here? its a no-brainer! What a terrible product!
Sounds like i was very lucky to have never had these problems on mine and to be able to enjoy the best ever phone experience of my life with none of the terrible afflictions you mention.

weird, you dont own a galaxy note, yet you have made 30 posts on this forum.
I would suggest you just take the plunge and get one, or dont get one. Get off the pot, as they say
The note is a fine piece of kit, period. There are other devices coming out which may or may not be marginally faster, smaller, better, worse, but ultimately if you like the note, get it, or buy the HTC one or the Galaxy S3 or Nexus. Its all apples and pears I guess.
Get it, enjoy it, and dont lose sleep over the bad stuff.

I would guess he means the poor rendering of blacks and shades of dark grey when playing back media. As far as I know all unmodified Notes have this problem. The S-Pen issue is also well known (but is it really a problem if you cannot draw on the last 0.5mm of the screen bottom?)
I have also seen lagging (especially with the home button) not that it bothers me much.
Basically the phone is good enough for me, but if you are annoyed by these things then get another phone. I am not on ICS yet as I have been reading of some horror stories and other people who say that the new update does not change much. Perhaps someone can correct my "misconceptions".

If I were in North America, I would have bought the phone already. I am now in a city where exchange and refund are not common. Sometimes people even got into fight. So, I have to be extra careful especially buying such an expensive product.

Oh, just the minor problem of the phone being bricked due to the memory of the phone being damaged by a bug in some wipe routine. Apparently only effects under 5% of people but I am not keen to risk my phone.

I think the video blackness problem is not great. It depends on the quality of the data, and if its a nighttime scene or not. It is there, but it does not detract from enjoyment that much!
Ref the lag , its really not that noticeable. Try a nokia N900 (my previous phone) and you'll know what lag is - routinely 20 or 30 seconds to open an app, lol. Ive never seen the note delay for more than a second or 2 opening or closing apps.
Ref refund or exchange policy in your area, I suppose any modern complex smartphone will be prone to any risk of errors. I can't say the Note is worse or better than any other.
Ive Rooted mine and update the rom 2x thus far from GB to ICS (2 versions), with no problems. I did this because of the very poor copy text functionality on GB. All but rendered the use for my business impossible.
Most apps run ok. All the essential ones anyway.
