User management on Android 4.3 tablets (Samsung)

pmm75

Newbie
I just got the new 2014 edition Note 10.1 and was expecting to set up a restricted profile for my guests for music playing and web browsing with no access to my saved passwords and bookmarks, email etc.

All the guides I find however have totally different looking settings page and I couls swear there is no such setting as users anywhere in this Samsung device although it runs Android 4.3 and is tablet and thus should have that feature.

Any help? Can I still somehow access it though Samsung settings panel gives me no access to it?

I have not heard of it having multi-user support. Someone on XDA answered with a simple "nope" to the question:

Multi-user support? - xda-developers

Maybe in the future?

Well, 4.3 SHOULD have the feature as it's one of the most talked new feature in it and you find dozens and dozens of hits describing it in Google. Now it seems to me that Samsung has just somehow decided not to implement it in this tab which really sucks since multi user use was one of my intended uses for this tablet.

Android 4.3 should allow for example a restricted profil based on a main profile that has the same apps but no access to store nor your app data, including email, bookmarks and passwords.

I really hope it's just an update away...

If anyone knows if the multiple-profile feature is limited by hardware or just an update away, that would really help me. I've been agonizing over 2 different tablets and was just about to decide on the Note 2014 when I saw that it lacked multi-profiles. If this is something that will like be added in an update, I might still choose this one. But, if it cannot be fixed/enabled with software, I'll probably go with my other choice.

I would go into it expecting that they will not implement multi-user.

Just curious, what other tablet are you looking at? If it's the nexus 10 I would wait for the new one to release soon.

Nexus 10 is great and being a Note 10. user I have looked at it multiple times and there is one tragic flaw with it - lack uSD card slot. If you carry any important stuff on your tablet and it craps out, everything is gone if it is on internal memory, if you keep it on the uSD card you are safe.

The Sony Xperia is my other choice, and it does support multiple users with the latest firmware "bump". Being water proof, it might make the most sense if I plan on it being a coffee-table device.

Hello everyone.

I have received my Galaxy Note about a week ago. One of many reasons I picked this tablet and not another one, was it had Jelly Bean 4.3 which was advertised Multi Users Restricted Profile.

I cannot confirm that I did not have multi users when I first used the table because it wanted up install updates straight away. The fact is that I can create multi users. However, I still have not found the option Restricted Profile as I have seen available with 4.3. This is a big disappointment.

I appreciate that a tablet is more an evolution from a smartphone which is more a personal device than from a laptop which is designed to work in network with multi users etc.... However, it is clear that a large tablet like the note 10.1 is to be used by several members of the family and therefore I would expect the same level of administration than a laptop. ie create user account and access permissions (not only to program/apps, but also to which websites can be visited).

at the moment I am looking at apps which pretend to provide high level of parental control. So far I have not managed to find exactly what I want.
I have installed Zoodles and Kids Place from Kiddoware. The later seems to provide greater option but I still can't select which website can be visited per which users, nor can the apps start at user login.

Maybe I am too much of a newbie and if someone could direct me to some webpage or tutorial, this would be much appreciated.

Now, what can we do for samsung to provide access to the restricted profiles. What is Samsung's interest to block this new functionality of jelly bean ?

Thanks guys !!!

When was the new firmware update released? I am using the note 8 and have not seen the update yet? Where did you get this information from?

If your talking about 4.4.2 (KK), then I just got my update yesterday but have not yet confirmed if multi-user is now there.
