you could do that but you would have to keep your phone in the plug most of the time as tethering wastes an enormous amount of battery... that would make your electricity bill rocket... also depending on where you live, your connection could be terrible and it might just not be worth it... but you can def tether... virgin mobile asks you to pay a fee but if you root you can tether for free...So comcast just doubled my home Internet price, is there any reason I can't cancel comcast and tether my evo's 4G connection to my PC? I'm broke enough without paying comcast's insane prices.

ive never heard of them completely banning service to people who tether by root but they do have that right... but what they can definitely do is slow down your speeds if you use way too much data... there were times when i was upstate and i had to tether for 12 mabye 15 hours... i have never seen my speeds decrease but virgin mobile can def do that...Thanks for the info. I'm not too concerned about electricity costs as the charger I use is 5W, about the same energy as running my modem and router. The 4G at my house isn't terrible, even on 3G I get decent speeds. My main worry is VM cutting off my service if they see a spoke in usage, ever heard of this happening?

Did they tell you how after like 6 months (maybe more if lucky) it will go back up to the actual price for internet + price of cable. But anyways, enjoy your 30 MB/s. I get about 25 MB/s and love it, better than paying the same thing for DSL at a few MB/s.

No, virgin has banned people in the past for using excessive data.
You are provided service for your mobile phone, by doing this you would screw us all over by getting them to lock down on their throttling policy.
Bad idea.
LOL, I know people who use 10+ GB a month. One person isn't going to change anything.
the thing to remember, is when you finally cancel comcast, do NOT change your spending habits.
every month that goes by, take that money and SAVE it. put it away where you cant spend it, in a few months youll have enough to do something really cool.
you already said your broke, save the money that would normally go to comcast and get yourself better internet down the road
If
don't let people tell you "no man, don't to it, it'll ruin it for all of us" because it won't.
most rooted users have tethered before, or tether often. adding you to the ballpark won't make a differece.
because of their oh so fast 3G :^DYeah, and tell again why Sprint is the only company with unlimited data?
Okay this is totally off topic but if anyone decides to switch internet DO NOT BUY CLEAR or CLEARWIRE!!! It is the worst internet known to man (from my experience).my speed was always less than 200 kbps when my dad's contract was about 1mbps... then we went to Comcast and got the same price for 10 Mbps.
And this is the exact reason they have caps. People abuse it.
You are paying $35 a month, don't be greedy.
What are you so worried about? There aren't even any advertised caps on the 4G for Virgin. It's not being greedy if the people are paying for it.
