Help Using a launcher with the One

I'm using Nova too. The first thing I did when I picked up my phone was look at Blinkfeed and ask my buddy "How do I get this *#@% off here?"

Apparently I'm a 70 year old trapped in the body of a 31 year old because I just spent 10 minutes searching this forum to also remove the facebook link in the photo gallery.

Anyway, I love Nova - haven't tried any others.

Yeah I feel this way too sometimes haha. So did you find a way to remove the facebook link?

Back on sense 1 I used nothing but 3rd part launchers. Then somewhere around sense 2.1 - 3.0 I really started to like sense. Probably due to skins and myself learning to theme a bit. I do miss skins.

I really like sense 5 but I don't understand how HTC finallly has this bad ass phone that can run all of the cool sense animations and stuff but they took it all away, lol. Oh well it is easier to theme. It does bother me that I can't get rid of blinkfeed and there is no looping home screen. They finally got that right on sense 4.1 or 4+ whatever it was. I also miss the ability to have different wallpapers on lockscreen vs homescreen... Oh well.

Anyway finding circle launcher widget broke my need for a scrolling dock. It's not really a launcher more of a very customizable folder app. I pretty much work off one screen on sense and I keep it clean by setting the icon completely transparent... Or a small icon that goes with my current mood/screen. Then tasker can do the rest automatically, tho I haven't set that up yet on this phone.

I actually set up 4 screens(not including blinkfeed that I shoved to the far left), but they are there just to ad some visual I guess. Ha

You can have a different wallpaper on the lockscreen from the desktop, provided that's the only customisation you want. But if you want the productivity lockscreen, or to have a (repeat, "a" ) widget on it, then you can't change the wallpaper!

Now I found I quite liked their lockscreen, but why "either/or"? So that particular piece of inflexibility drove me back to WidgetLocker in the end.

any app that uses clock cycles, ram and screen will consume power.

the more apps running at the same time, on screen, using cpu cycles, managing resources, will use power and drain your battery power more.

so yes in theory they do.

Of course they only use more power if the Sense launcher is also running. It never shows on my power usage, and I've not even bothered disabling or uninstalling it (BTW don't do stuff like that if you don't know what the possible consequences are and what you'll do if it goes wrong).

I remember a long time ago (earlier generations of phone) people advised removing widgets from your Sense homescreen if you were going to be using another launcher, to avoid pointless background drain. But I've not bothered and not noticed any effect.

Bottom line, there are things you can try if you notice an effect, but I've not seen one myself.

I believe you would only get the extra usage drain if you never restarted your phone after installing a new launcher. Or if you didn't force stop sense. Or if you switch between launchers frequently ( not sure why you would do that tho).

This was for older android versions and things may get taken care of better now. But if you reboot your phone after setting up a launcher then only the default launcher will run. And shouldn't affect battery life much one way or the other.

OK Jahmiel,here it goes,BLINKFEED w/APEX LAUNCHER:

Going w/the free version, but this can easily be modified to change the shortcut method w/the PRO version

1) Go to APEX SETTINGS > ADVANCED SETTINGS > SET DEFAULT LAUNCHER.Select APEX,then select ALWAYS.

2) Again,go to APEX SETTINGS > BEHAVIOR SETTINGS > HOME KEY ACTION.For now, select DO NOTHING.

3) Now,while you're still in BEHAVIOR SETTINGS,scroll down until you see GESTURES.
Here's where you're gong to create your direct access (SHORTCUT) to BLINKFEED.

Take your pick of gestures, but, regardless,it'll work the same, whichever you choose.

For this example,we'll select DESKTOP DOUBLE TAP > LAUNCH SHORTCUT.

You should now see a menu w/the heading CHOOSE SHORTCUT.

Now,select ACTIVITIES > HTC SENSE.

Tap on HTC SENSE & then tap/select the 1st sub-option > HTC SENSE.launcher

Now,go back to your home screen/default of APEX & give it a try.....

Whenever I attempt to open an app on my device from my lockscreen, it just goes straight to home/passcode page to the last open app. I'm not sure what's causing this problem so if you need any additional information, I can provide whatever I can find. Thanks for your time.

well, what was the initial behavior? how did things work prior?

are you rooted?

what carrier?

what is the latest Android OS?

how long have you had the phone? are you the only owner? did you purchase new? used? is it an insurance replacement/refurbished?

are you using a third party launcher? if using stock launcher, what launcher "screen" are you using?

  • Prior Behavior
Prior to this happening, I would be able to slide an icon up and it would open the app once I entered my passcode.
  • Rooted
    I am not rooted.
  • Carrier
    My carrier is AT&T
  • Android OS
The android version of my phone is 4.1.2
  • Ownership Information
I have had the phone since launch, so around a year. I am the only owner, I purchased the phone new.
  • Launcher
    I am using Nova Launcher.
The problem was actually resolved last night when I updated my "AT&T Software" but I don't know why that worked either. I don't think Sense updated as it's still 5.0, and my Android Version was left untouched as well.

Hi guys.. some help appreciated..
Installed nova launcher, great stuff.. But... HTC Sense launch bar appears on lock screen... annoying..

Is there a fix to this.. to get the nova launch bar on lock screen OR no launch bar if not..

Cheers...

I think the lock screen remains Sense even if you use another launcher. I also use Nova and can't change anything on the lock screen. On my previous phone, a Galaxy Note, I could change lock screen items and layout without any problems, on the One that does not work.

If anyone knows of a work-a-round I'd be keen to know.

Try a 3rd party lockscreen app like Widget Locker.

Hey All -

Over the last couple of days I installed the Google Now Launcher on my M7 and so far I am loving it!

So far I have found that the HTC widgets do not work (I expected this and planned for it) and that the stock camera would open up and take pictures, but not save them to the phone. I had to down load the Google Camera app as a replacement.

Anyone else who has this, have you found anything other apps that I should replace or any other tips I should know?

How do you like it / hate it?
