Help Using Android behind a proxy server

Hi all!

I am a new Android user. Just got a Samsung Galaxy 5 i5503... However, I'm facing a major issue with my network provider. It is that the internet access I have on my phone is only possible through a proxy server which only allows traffic destined for web page ports (80, 8080).

This means that the only internet application that works is the browser. Is there any way to actually get to use the Android Market, G talk, G mail, Calender, etc?

I have tried to get help from my network provider (Airtel in Zambia) but have never got a response that a trained chimp couldn't give. Hence, I turn to this forum. Hope you guys know a few tricks :)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm faced with the same issue. Would like to use the same phone on our enterprise LAN, did you ever find out what to do?

I found some info here: Setting Proxy in Android Phones

Don't want to root the phone yet unless thats last option as its owned by the company. Would be nice if there was just an app to set your proxy somehow but I can't find any on marketplace :(
