Help Using Hotspot

golfgame

Newbie
My S4 is using 5.0.1.

I want to use it as a hotspot when traveling and tether my Nexus 7 to it.

I am able to turn on Hotspot and have setup the S4 to allow the Nexus and have entered the mac address of the Nexus 7.

The Nexus is seeing the S4 as a hot spot but does not link up. It continues to say "obtaining IP address" and then IP configuration failure.

Can anyone help on this?

Thanks

Tbh I haven't used one in a few years I wouldn't be able to comment on the best. But give a few a try and see if its compatible with your device

OK, here is the scenario now. Can anyone help on this. Here is where I am at now

On the S4
1. Hotspot Created
2. Set to allow all devices
3. Shows no devices connected

On the Nexus 7 Tablet
1. Shows connected to the S4
2. In tablet settings signal strength show excellent
3. In the notification bar there is no WIFI signal showing, has an explanation mark (!)

Thank you

have entered the mac address of the Nexus 7.
I never had to actually enter (type in) my mac address. After I logged my tethered deVice in the first time using the password, it showed up in a list and I selected add.

So if you manually entered it, I wonder if there is a typo or stray character.

Try deleting the nexus from list of allowed devices, set to "all devices" (vs "allowed devices only") and log in again by using password...does it work ok then?

Here's what I mean... while connected it shows a plus sign (+) to add the device to allowed devices list
