Using LG Volt as mp3/media player

Hello,

I have been looking for a smartphone to use as a MP3 player and use the internet and play apps with wifi. I don't need any data plans or any contracts for cell service. I have found the LG Volt sprint prepaid on amazon for 79.99 and it seems like that would be perfect for what I am looking for.

Would I be able to buy this phone and use it just with wifi with out paying for anything else? I have been reading some reviews and it seems mixed on if I can do this or not with the Sprint prepaid phone.

Thank you very much.

*Edit* I just found the LG Volt on BestBuy's website for 59.99 with a boost mobile no contract, is there any difference from the Sprint one from amazon?

No there's no difference in them. Just carrier branding. You could use it as a wifi only device, but you'd have to root it. This would allow you to freeze the activation app so ghe the phone isn't constantly trying to activate.

The battery on this phone would be great for your needs also. However, in regards to gaming performance, it is a little on the low side. I would recommend getting GLTools (free on XDA forums). It will let you lower the resolution and graphical effects on games so they run better.

Thanks for the reply's, I got the phone and it works really good so far, the battery is great. I am going to look into rooting it in the next few days.

I have a SD card on order and should be here in the next few days.

Thank you again for the help.

There's a new method to root without having to flash back to ZV3 to root. You may want to try that route first. That way you don't lose any of the setup that you've done on your phone already.

In post#2, there is a link to 1 click root method that may get you quickly rooted.
I haven't tried this method before as I did the ZV3 root method a few month ago.
