using mike to compose text message

I am having difficulty using my micraphone to compose a message. It states no connection. I have to turn on wifi to get it to work. I called tech support and they could not answer why.

Wow, have never heard of such a thing.

Try putting the Google widget on your phone. It comes with a mic attached. See if that microphone will work in your search.

I tried that. I either need the wifi or the mobile data turned on to use the mike for any text composition.
