Root Using nandroid restore data only

I'm looking to try out some ROMS (fresh, cyn, etc). Now after I flash with a new ROM, will I be able to use the nandroid restore data to bring back settings/apps? I figured it would be the quickest way but at the same time I'm no expert.
I know some people do that when upgrading a ROM, but it's probably not recommended when trying a new one. Personally, I would use titanium backup to restore apps/app data, then just change settings manually. Yes, it takes longer, but you avoid aimlessly troubleshooting any issues you may have. If nothing else, try it if you want, and if you get a bootloop, wipe data, and reflash the rom.
